Duties Summary
Plans, organizes, coordinates and evaluates a recreation program for an assigned corrections work area; conducts varied and comprehensive recreational activities; and performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
To qualify, you must meet all of the following requirements:
Legal Authorization To Work
The State of Hawaii requires all persons seeking employment with the government of the State shall be citizens, nationals, or permanent resident aliens of the United States, or eligible under federal law for unrestricted employment in the United States.
Education:
A bachelor's degree in recreation, physical education, recreational therapy, leisure education, psychology, corrections, sociology, human development or other recreational or behavioral science field. Course work must have included a
minimum of 12 semester credit hours in courses such as community recreation, physical fitness, abnormal psychology, counseling, behavior management, criminal justice, human personality and behavior.
General Experience:
Six (6) months of progressively responsible professional work experience in an
organized athletic/recreation program for groups of people
, which included
professional
level experience in
planning, organizing, coordinating and carrying out of such athletic/recreation programs.
Driver's License:
Some positions require possession of a valid driver's license at the time of appointment.

Criminal History Check And Comprehensive Background Investigation
You will be required to sign an Applicant's Consent, Authorization and Request to Release Information Waiver. For this purpose, you waive any and all privileges you may have to maintain such records, information and opinions as confidential, including but not limited to the privileges arising out of the foregoing relationships.
Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) Requirement:
As required by the Prison Rape Elimination Act of 2003 (PREA), Federal law states that " agency shall not hire or promote anyone who may have contact with inmates and who:
- Has engaged in sexual abuse in a prison, jail, lockup, community confinement facility, juvenile facility or other institution.
- Has been convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force, overt or implied threats of force, or coercion, or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse.
- Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described in #2 above.
- Has been the subject of substantiated allegations of sexual abuse or sexual harassment or resigned during a pending investigation of alleged sexual abuse or sexual harassment.
