Telecommunications Engineer (Full Time, Contract; Hybrid in Charlotte, North Carolina)

Optomi, in partnership with a major energy company, is seeking a highly skilled Telecomm Engineer. The successful candidate will develop telecommunications solutions to address business needs including the planning, designing, implementing, testing and documentation of the communication systems & network components. This candidate will develop support processes to better enable 1st and 2nd level support teams to handle support issues along with providing 3rd level advance support as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Provision, configure, and troubleshoot carrier-grade optical networks using Ciena 39xx/6500 and MCP/Navigator.
  • Perform end-to-end circuit turn-ups, testing, and transport network support across optical and microwave systems.
  • Support routing/switching infrastructure (Cisco) along with management devices like Opengear and NetGuardian.
  • Maintain Telecom UPS/DC power systems including Eltek, Vertiv, Powerware, and Delta.
  • Document network changes and workflows in ServiceNow, CAST Pro, and other engineering tools.
  • Work independently to execute upgrades, maintenance, and troubleshooting while collaborating with engineering and field teams as needed.

  • 5–10+ years in telecom engineering, optical engineering, network engineering, or provisioning.
  • Background in carrier optical networks: design, provisioning, troubleshooting, and field support.
  • Proven hands-on work with Ciena platforms (39xx, 6500) and related management tools (MCP/Navigator).
  • Exposure to SEL Icon and IMUX gear.
  • Comfortable with routing/switching on Cisco platforms.
  • Familiar with monitoring/management devices (Opengear, NetGuardian).
  • Microwave experience (Cambium or Nokia) is a plus.
  • Strong understanding of Telecom UPS/DC power systems.
  • Experience with Agile workflow, Kanban boards, Jira, and general ticketing (ServiceNow).
  • Strong documentation habits—preferably with CAST Pro or similar tools.
