Director of Operations - Commercial HVAC & Refrigeration - Ohio

Gryphon Oakwood are currently working on a Director of Operations to work with the Owner to lead and optimize all aspects of the business (new construction, design-build, retrofits and service) in Columbus and the surrounding area. For a leading mechanical contractor with a strong reputation in HVAC and refrigeration for commercial facilities (Office, High-Rise, Multi-family, Restaurants and Warehouses).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead daily operations across new construction, design-build, retrofits, and service divisions.
  • Improve processes, workflows, and KPIs to increase efficiency, quality, and profitability.
  • Oversee project delivery, scheduling, labor planning, and resource allocation.
  • Ensure all safety, compliance, and quality standards are met.
  • Monitor financial performance, budgets, and job cost reports; drive margin improvement.
  • Support client relations and assist with resolving escalated project or service issues.
  • Recruit, mentor, and develop operational and project management teams.

Key Qualifications

  • 10+ years of operations or project leadership experience in mechanical contracting, HVAC, or construction.
  • Proven track record managing large, multi-phase commercial projects or service operations.
  • Strong financial acumen, including budgeting, margin analysis, and forecasting.
  • Expertise in workflow optimization, scheduling, and resource planning.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and team development skills.
  • Knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, and mechanical systems for commercial facilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, growing environment.
