Role Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and self-motivated
Java AWS Developer
to join our team for a long-term, onsite contract role in Atlanta, GA. This position is critical for accelerating the modernization and cloud migration efforts, focusing on transitioning monolithic and internal PaaS applications to a high-performance, serverless architecture on AWS. The ideal candidate possesses deep hands-on experience across the full application stack, from core development languages to containerization, database technologies, and continuous delivery pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Migration and Development

  • Application Modernization:
    Actively rework and migrate on-premise and internal PaaS applications to the AWS cloud, aligning with project timelines and security standards.
  • Serverless Architecture:
    Design and implement robust serverless patterns, translating containerized applications into highly efficient, scalable serverless functions (Lambda, API Gateway, etc.).
  • Software Craftsmanship:
    Develop amazingly efficient and effective software using languages like
    Java (11+), (JavaScript/TypeScript)
    , and related frameworks (Spring Boot, Microservices).
  • API Management:
    Build industry-standard APIs, establishing best practices for consumption, routing, connectivity protocols, and policy management.

Architectural Design and Operational Excellence

  • Technical Strategy:
    Design, develop, and implement architecture patterns optimized for
    SLAs, reliability, and cost-efficiency
    .
  • Proactive Problem Solving:
    Look upstream and downstream to anticipate future consequences of technical choices and aggressively resolve and prevent technical debt.
  • CI/CD & Testing:
    Help establish and grow a culture of software craftsmanship best practices, including TDD/BDD, Test Automation (Unit and Integration), Continuous Integration, and Continuous Deployment.
  • Monitoring & Support:
    Drive performance improvements through detailed monitoring, metrics, problem analysis, and trend identification using tools like
    CloudWatch, Splunk, Dynatrace, or Grafana/Prometheus
    .
  • Production Support:
    Provide assistance and support to team members, including troubleshooting and maintenance of production systems, and actively participate in a
    24/7 on-call rotation
    .

Technical Qualifications

Core Development & Cloud

  • Solid development experience in one or more:
    Java 11+
    , JavaScript ), and TypeScript.
  • Mandatory:
    Extensive experience with AWS serverless and infrastructure services, including
    Lambda, API Gateway, CloudFormation, and Route53
    .
  • Proficiency in CI/CD technologies such as
    GitLab CI/CD, AWS CodePipeline, Jenkins, or Tekton
    .
  • Experience with Relational Databases (Postgres, Oracle DB) and NoSQL Databases (DynamoDB, MongoDB/DocumentDB).
  • Good exposure and sound knowledge of Containerized Frameworks like
    Red Hat OpenShift or Kubernetes
    .

Process & Professional Skills

  • Solid working experience in an
    Agile-driven methodology
    .
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis (RCA) and strong production support skills.
  • Ability to create usable documentation and playbooks.
  • Strong analytical skills to effectively analyze trade-offs between usability and performance needs.
  • Education: Minimum 3+ years of developer experience paired with an undergrad or Master's degree from a US accredited university.
