GENERAL DEFINITION OF WORK:
The community engagement specialist will support the organization's external and internal communications and media relations, building, maintaining, and preserving a positive public image for King George County, as well as support tourism efforts in marketing existing assets within the county. Work is performed under the general supervision of the community engagement director.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/TYPICAL TASKS:

- Supports internal and external communications.
- Writes and creates content for a wide range of platforms, including articles, speeches, presentations, and publications for both internal and external audiences.
- Facilitates communication tools, including the county's website, intranet, and social media platforms, ensuring content is updated and accurate.
- Assists with marketing strategies to advance the county's brand, increase community engagement, and promote local tourism and events.
- Responds to public inquiries, providing accurate information and interpreting county policies, regulations, and ordinances.
- Coordinates and implements special events, working with private organizers and monitoring trends to align with citizen expectations.
- Coordinates the county's tourism grant program, managing applications and awards annually.
- Serves on boards, commissions and committees as assigned by the county administrator.
- Performs other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Expertise in marketing and public relations, with a strong understanding of graphic design principles, branding, and sub-branding; Proficiency in digital content creation, including photography, videography, and graphic design using Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Lightroom, Illustrator, Premiere Pro) or similar software; Knowledge of digital platforms, including various social media and widget-based website platforms, and how to leverage them for marketing campaigns; Skilled in data analysis, with the ability to measure the impact of marketing strategies and make data-driven decisions; Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, with proficiency in AP Style; Strong interpersonal skills with a proven ability to build trust and lasting relationships with diverse stakeholders, government agencies, and tourism business partners; Highly organized and deadline-oriented, with the ability to manage complex projects and campaigns that align with strategic goals; Proactive approach to job responsibilities; Proficient in standard office software, including CRMs, Microsoft 365 Suite, and data tools; Team-oriented with a strong desire to learn and adapt to new and evolving environments; Aware of principles and processes for providing quality customer service; Strong memory and recall to serve as information source for tourism businesses, county partners and staff
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Requires a bachelor's degree in Communications, Marketing, Journalism, or a related field with two (2) years of experience, preferably in the public sector or with local government or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be physically able to operate a variety of office machines, tools and equipment, such as a computer, printer, fax machine, copy machine, calculator, or telephone. Tasks require the ability to exert light physical effort in sedentary to light work, but which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (40 LBS.). Tasks may involve extended periods of time at a keyboard or work station. Requires the ability to read a variety of informational and technical documentation, directions, instructions, and methods and procedures. Requires the ability to write reports with proper format, punctuation, spelling and grammar, using all parts of speech. Requires the ability to speak with and before others with poise, voice control, and confidence using correct English. Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width, and shape, visually with job-related equipment. Requires the ability to handle a variety of items, job-related equipment, control knobs, switches, etc. Must have the ability to use one hand for twisting or turning motion while coordinating other hand with different activities. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. Requires the ability to talk and/or hear (talking – expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words; hearing – perceiving nature of sounds by ear).
