Position Overview

The
Project Controls Analyst I
supports
capital construction programs.
You'll focus on
cost control, forecasting, and variance analysis
, ensuring all financial activities align with WEC's
project governance standards
.

This role is ideal for professionals experienced in
regulated utilities
or
energy projects
who can manage complex financial data, forecasts, and cross-functional reporting.

Team & Reporting Structure

  • Team Size: ~13 professionals (mix of Analysts & Project Managers)
  • No direct reports
  • Cross-functional collaboration with
    Finance, Engineering, Construction, and Supply Chain
  • Reports to PMO leadership

Key Responsibilities

  • Track and maintain
    cost baselines, commitments, and accruals
    .
  • Support
    earned value management
    and
    forecasting accuracy
    .
  • Collaborate with project managers to assess
    cost impacts
    and
    risks
    .
  • Prepare
    variance analyses
    , dashboards, and financial reports for leadership.
  • Contribute to
    continuous improvement
    of cost management tools and procedures.
  • Ensure
    governance and compliance
    with WEC PMO standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Identify
    financial risks and deviations
    early; recommend corrective actions.
  • Evaluate
    cost impacts
    from
    scope changes, claims, and modifications
    .
  • Participate in
    audits, financial reviews, and governance meetings
    .

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in
    Finance, Accounting, Construction Management, or Engineering
    preferred.
  • In lieu of a degree: 7–10 years of relevant experience.

Experience:

  • 3–5 years
    in
    project controls, cost analysis, or financial management
    (utilities, energy, or infrastructure industries preferred).
  • Strong understanding of
    cost control principles
    ,
    budgeting
    ,
    forecasting
    , and
    variance analysis
    .

Technical Skills

  • Primavera P6
    – scheduling and earned value integration
  • SAP / Maximo
    – cost management systems
  • Excel & Power BI
    – advanced reporting and analytics
  • Strong understanding of
    PMO governance
    and
    earned value management (EVM)
  • Excellent
    written and verbal communication
    skills, comfortable presenting to leadership

Preferred Background

  • Experience with
    regulated utilities
    or
    energy construction projects
  • Solid knowledge of
    project cost governance
    and
    compliance frameworks
  • Veterans and candidates with
    project governance exposure
    are encouraged to apply
