Position Summary
The Scrum Master will be responsible for improving their team's performance through effective leadership, coaching, mentoring, teaching and facilitating. They will foster an environment where (1) a product owner orders the work for a complex problem into a product backlog, (2) the scrum team turns a selection of work into an increment of value during a sprint, (3) the scrum team and its stakeholders inspect the results and adjust for the next sprint and (4) repeat. The scrum master will serve their team, the product owner and the larger organization ensuring success.

The scrum master will have a strong understanding of Agile techniques and patterns, excellent communication skills, and a passion for fostering a collaborative and productive work environment

Essential Duties And Responsibilities
The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Improve their team: The scrum master is accountable for their team's effectiveness. They do this by enabling the team to improve its practices, within the scrum framework. They enable team members to self-organize and self-manage in the accomplishment of product and sprint goals. They encourage team members to continually expand their personal and team capabilities and skills
  • Remove Impediments: The scrum master identifies, escalates and addresses obstacles that may hinder their team's progress. They work to ensure issues are resolved promptly, efficiently and strategically (i.e. ensure root causes are addressed). They act as a team and organizational megaphone ensuring impediments are adequately exposed with supporting facts and resolution recommendations
  • Enable high-value product creation: Scrum masters help the team focus on creating high-value increments that meet the definition of done (or our standard of quality). They enable continuous improvement of both our products and their team through effective use of empiricism, scrum artifacts and events
  • Collaborate with Product Owner: Scrum masters work closely with the product owner to ensure effective goal definition and product backlog management supported by clear and concise product backlog items. They help establish empirical product planning for complex environments. They facilitate stakeholder collaboration as requested or needed
  • Enable organizational agility: Scrum masters participate in leading, training, and coaching our organization in its scrum adoption. They plan and advise on scrum implementations. Help Extra Milers and stakeholders understand and enact an empirical approach for complex work. They remove barriers between stakeholders and scrum teams

Minimum Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

  • Team improvement skills based on agile methodologies, values, principles, patterns and techniques - improving flow, teamwork, and outcomes focus
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills at all levels: teaching, coaching, mentoring, listening, and facilitating
  • Ability to build trust, influence and persuade in pursuit of building strong organizational clout.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to think critically and strategically
  • Proficiency in agile tools such as post-it notes, Jira, Miro, Office 365, or equivalent· Good skills and knowledge of servant leadership, facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution, continual improvement, empowerment, and circumscribing transparency
  • Bachelor's Degree and Certified Scrum Master (CSM) or equivalent entry-level Agile certification

Preferred Qualifications (knowledge, Skills, And Abilities)

  • Three to five years proven experience as a scrum master, agile coach or in a similar role within an agile team
  • Additional preferred certifications PMI-ACP, Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), Certified Scrum Professional (SM-CSP), Certified Team Coach (CTC) or Certified Psychological Safety Coach, and Certified Agile Leader (CAL 1 & 2)
  • Knowledge of other Agile approaches: XP, Kanban, LeSS, , Business Agility Institute (BAI), etc
  • Awareness and experience with widely successful Agile techniques: User Stories, BDD, TDD, Continuous Integration, Continuous Deployment (CI/CD), Pairing, Automated Testing, Agile Games, Liberating Structures, ScrumPLOP, etc
