Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Accountant / Payroll Specialist to join our multifamily management team. This role offers an opportunity to work within a dynamic environment, managing financial operations, payroll processing, and ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate will possess strong accounting expertise, experience with various financial software, and a solid understanding of regulatory requirements related to multifamily housing and nonprofit accounting. This position provides an engaging environment for professionals committed to accuracy, integrity, and continuous improvement in financial management.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and analyze financial statements in accordance with GAAP and regulatory standards.
- Manage payroll processing using software such as ADP Workforce Now, ensuring timely and accurate payments.
- Reconcile general ledger accounts, bank statements, and balance sheets to maintain data integrity.
- Conduct accounts payable and receivable activities, including invoice processing and collections.
- Assist with additional property management company needs being the active property manager of 12 apartments.
- Perform month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and accruals.
- Ensure compliance with SOX controls, LIHTC regulations, and other relevant legal requirements such as securities law and estate law.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis to support strategic decision-making.
- Support regulatory reporting requirements for multifamily housing programs and nonprofit entities.
- Maintain detailed documentation of financial processes and assist in internal audits or external audits as needed.
- Mentor junior staff or interns in accounting best practices and software utilization.
- Utilize advanced Excel skills for financial report writing, interpretation, and data analysis.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA or CMA preferred.
- Proven experience with corporate accounting, governmental accounting, nonprofit accounting, or public accounting environments.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP principles, double-entry bookkeeping, debits & credits, and technical accounting standards.
- Strong knowledge of HR and Payroll principles.
- Proficiency with accounting software such as Yardi Voyager 8; familiarity with financial management tools is essential.
- Proficiency with payroll software such as ADP Workforce Now.
- Experience with regulatory compliance including SOX controls and LIHTC regulations is highly desirable.
- Ability to perform balance sheet reconciliation, account analysis, bank reconciliation, and account reconciliation accurately.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret financial reports and conduct cash flow analysis.
- Knowledge of tax concepts related to nonprofit organizations or real estate management is a plus.
- Strong organizational skills with attention to detail; ability to handle multiple priorities efficiently.
- Effective communication skills for financial report writing and interpretation; mentoring experience is a plus.
