Principal Project and Program Engineers (multiple positions available)

This Principal Engineers will Project Manage large and complex projects or Program Manage major/critical business initiatives and will be responsible for all aspects of planning and executing projects/programs from ideation to project closure.  This role will potentially lead projects in process areas, buildings and infrastructure, general manufacturing processes, and packaging systems depending on business needs.  The role owns overall leadership of major capital projects through the Mars Engineering Execution Standard for executional excellence in project delivery. 

There are multiple roles available that can be based out of our major hub sites across North America. Other locations will be considered and would require significant travel.

What are we looking for?

  • Minimum of a Bachelor of Science in engineering; an advanced degree in engineering, MBA or PMP certification preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in a comparable technical position within food, beverage, pharmaceutical or related industry

  • In-Depth understanding and success with project management principals.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of engineering disciplines: Building, Infrastructure, Civil, Utilities, Process, Packaging, Electrical, Construction or Computer Services

  • In-depth understanding of functional engineering area of expertise

  • Proven track record in developing and executing projects; leading direct reports or project teams and success as strong consensus builder

  • Strong Innovation Management

  • Ability to travel 20-60% (depending on location)

  • Demonstrated skills in: influencing, critical thinking, collaborating all within high performing teams.

Principal Accountabilities

  • Develop industry and product specific relevant technical skills.

  • Develop personal leadership and managerial skills

  • Provide leadership to continuously improve the effectiveness of the technical function and development of other engineers.

  • Drive for Excellence in Execution

  • Stay current in the most state of the art functional tools and methodologies

  • Develop projects that meet business and regional activity plans

  • Communicate with all Stakeholders to ensure all project objectives are clearly defined and achieved

  • Ensure delivery of scope, time, budget, and cash flow for all projects

  • Lead team members to gain and sustain a technical competitive advantage

  • Drive initiatives that shorten new product and project cycle times and improve implementation efficiencies as well as operational efficiencies

  • Drive lean ways of working in the engineering process and as a project deliverable

  • Drive decisions to improve business measurements

  • Provide innovative solutions resulting in sustained technical competitive advantage

  • Provide project solutions with value added engineering and lean design

  • Support the development of technology platforms for providing a sustained technical advantage

  • Drive to identify, protect and expand intellectual property

  • Develop standards for equipment, systems and engineering processes or assigned functional area and collaborate with other senior engineers and global technical teams

  • Develop external business relationships including construction contractors and engineering resources

  • Proactively develop practices and methodologies that increase the effectiveness and reduces the costs of engineering

  • Balance use of internal engineering resources with third party engineering firms for maximum value and efficiency

  • Provide strategic and tactical leadership to project teams and sites.

  • Effectively represent regional engineering function at the sites

  • Effectively mentor the 5Ps and continuous improvement of a safe environment

  • Drive project teams to focus on safety, environmental, food safety, etc. on all projects.

The base pay range for this position at commencement of employment is between the range listed below, however, base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including but not limited to job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position will include variable pay, medical and dental benefits, participation in 401k plan, and paid time off benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided if an applicant receives an offer of employment.
