Summary

We are seeking a passionate and skilled Addiction Counselor to join our clinical team. The Counselor plays a critical role in providing comprehensive, evidence-based counseling and support to individuals entering detoxification for substance use disorders. This position involves delivering individual, group, and family counseling to promote recovery, life adjustments, and successful transition to continuing care.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct individual, group, and family counseling sessions to assist clients in overcoming dependencies, developing coping skills, and adjusting to a life in recovery.
  • Develop, implement, and continuously review measurable, individualized treatment and discharge plans based on clinical assessment, client history, and professional collaboration.
  • Complete and maintain timely, accurate clinical records and reports, including client histories, progress notes, and service logs, in compliance with facility standards and regulations.
  • Interview clients, review records, and collaborate with multidisciplinary professionals to assess mental and physical condition, determine suitability for program participation, and evaluate the degree of substance dependency.
  • Coordinate care and counseling efforts with the facility's interdisciplinary team, including medical staff, mental health professionals, and social workers.
  • Plan and conduct client orientation and aftercare sessions, and actively participate in case conferences and staff meetings.

  • Upholds strict confidentiality and adheres to all ethical, legal, and regulatory standards (e.g., HIPAA, 42 CFR Part 2).
  • Proven ability to assess and de-escalate crisis situations within a clinical setting.
  • Demonstrates awareness and responsiveness to the diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds of clients.
  • Maintains accurate, timely, and compliant records using Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems.
  • Skilled in teaching and implementing effective relapse prevention strategies during the detox and transition phases.
  • Effectively communicates and collaborates with interdisciplinary staff (medical, nursing, mental health) to ensure integrated care.
  • Proficient in applying client-centered approaches to enhance motivation for change.
  • Excellent skills in leading structured therapeutic and educational groups.
  • Manages a caseload efficiently, prioritizing tasks and meeting deadlines for documentation and service delivery.
  • Maintains professional boundaries and utilizes effective self-care strategies to manage the demands of the detox environment.

Requirements

  • Minimum of two (2) years of professional experience in the field of alcohol and drug treatment, with experience in a detox or residential setting highly preferred.
  • Prior clinical experience in delivering both individual and group counseling services.
  • Completion of a certificate program specializing in addiction studies from a state-approved educational provider.
  • Must possess and maintain current certification as an Addiction Counselor (CADC or equivalent) with a recognized State of California counselor certifying organization.
