At the Drake Institute of Women's Policy, we believe everyday women can shape extraordinary change. Our mission is to build civic power, expand opportunities, and influence policies that strengthen families and communities nationwide.
We're inviting passionate leaders to step into board service with us. Whether you bring financial expertise, legal know-how, organizing experience, or a deep passion for women's leadership, your voice and vision matter here. We're especially looking for a Secretary, a Treasurer, and engaged General Board Members to help us grow this movement.
Board Secretary (Executive Board Member):
The Secretary ensures accurate recordkeeping and proper documentation of the Institute's governance activities, supporting transparency, compliance, and effective communication.
Responsibilities:
- Record, maintain, and distribute accurate minutes of board and committee meetings.
- Maintain official records, including bylaws, policies, board rosters, and filings.
- Ensure compliance with legal and regulatory filing requirements (e.g., annual state reports).
- Certify and maintain a permanent record of board resolutions and votes.
- Provide notice of meetings in accordance with bylaws.
- Support the Chair and CEO in preparing agendas and materials for board meetings.
- Serve as custodian of the nonprofit's corporate seal and key governance documents.
Qualifications:
- Strong organizational and written communication skills.
- Attention to detail and comfort with compliance requirements.
- Prior nonprofit or board service experience is preferred.
Board Treasurer (Executive Board Member):
The Treasurer provides leadership in financial oversight, ensuring the Institute's fiscal health, accountability, and compliance with nonprofit financial standards.
Responsibilities:
- Chair the Finance Committee and oversee financial planning, budgeting, and reporting.
- Present financial statements to the board and explain key issues in clear terms.
- Work with staff or external accountants to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
- Ensure compliance with IRS regulations and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Oversee internal controls, audits, and risk management practices.
- Support fundraising by helping assess financial feasibility of new initiatives.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to the board on financial strategy and sustainability.
Qualifications:
- Financial management experience (e.g., accounting, finance, investment, nonprofit management).
- Ability to interpret and communicate financial information to non-financial audiences.
- Commitment to transparency and strong ethical standards.
General Board Members:
General board members provide governance, advocacy, and resource development support, ensuring the Institute's mission is advanced effectively and sustainably.
Responsibilities:
- Serve as ambassadors for the Institute, promoting its mission in personal and professional networks.
- Participate actively in board meetings, committee service, and strategic planning.
- Contribute expertise to strengthen the Institute's programs, operations, and outreach.
- Make a personal annual financial contribution and assist in fundraising efforts.
- Help identify and cultivate donors, partners, and advocates.
- Provide oversight and accountability for the organization's activities, finances, and leadership.
- Support organizational events, campaigns, and initiatives.
Qualifications:
- Passion for advancing women's policy, civic qengagement, and social impact.
- Relevant expertise in areas such as policy, law, fundraising, communications, business, or the arts.
- Willingness to dedicate time, talent, and resources to support the Institute.
