We are a nationwide Alaskan Native Corporation seeking a Payroll Specialist working out of our Corporate Office located in Fairbanks. We have over 500 employees in multiple states on our payroll so you will work with a diverse group of people.

PURPOSE: The Payroll Technician ensures accurate and timely payroll processing for all company employees while maintaining compliance with federal, state, and union requirements. This position plays a key role in supporting payroll operations, improving system efficiency, and providing exceptional service to employees regarding pay, deductions, and related inquiries.

GENERAL DESCRIPTION: The Payroll Technician performs day-to-day payroll activities, including timecard review, payroll processing, wage adjustments, audits, and reporting. This role also maintains payroll system data, supports process improvements, and assists with system enhancements to improve accuracy and efficiency as the company continues to grow and evolve.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Payroll Processing

· Review employee timecards and leave requests for accuracy and policy compliance.

· Prepare and process biweekly payroll for multiple companies.

· Review and process wage changes, promotions, bonuses, and special pay.

· Ensure correct calculation of overtime, shift differentials, per diem, and union pay.

Compliance, Reporting & Audits

· Ensure payroll compliance with federal/state wage laws and union agreements.

· Process and reconcile payroll taxes, garnishments, levies, and other deductions.

· Assist with year-end processing including W-2s and audit support.

· Assist with reporting requirements such as certified payroll and labor compliance.

Employee Data & Customer Service

· Maintain accurate employee payroll records within the payroll system.

· Respond to employee questions regarding pay, deductions, and timesheet corrections.

Work closely with HR and Accounting to ensure data accuracy and timely onboarding/offboarding processing.

System Utilization & Process Improvements

· Support payroll system upgrades, testing, and workflow enhancements.

· Identify opportunities to increase automation and reduce manual processing.

· Maintain standard operating procedures for payroll tasks.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education: High school diploma required; associate's degree or higher in accounting, finance, or related field preferred.

Experience:

· Minimum of two years of payroll or related accounting experience required.

· Experience working with government contracts, Davis-Bacon, and/or union payroll preferred.

Technical Skills:

· Experience with Sage 100 Contractor, ADP, or similar payroll/ERP systems.

· Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and other Office applications.

Soft Skills:

High level of confidentiality and accuracy.

· Strong communication and customer service abilities.

· Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $ $28.54 per hour

Expected hours: 40 per week
