Summary of Position:
The Driver will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and timely delivery of presorted mail to various destinations. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to upholding the company's reputation for excellence in mail delivery services.
General Duties & Responsibilities:
- Operate company vehicles, primarily vans or trucks, in a safe and responsible manner.
- Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the safety and functionality of the vehicle.
- Load and unload presorted mail and parcels onto and from the vehicle in a secure and organized manner.
- Safely transport presorted mail to designated delivery points while adhering to predetermined routes and schedules.
- Follow all traffic laws and regulations and maintain a clean driving record.
- Maintain accurate records of daily mileage, fuel consumption, and vehicle maintenance.
- Interact professionally with customers at delivery points, providing exceptional customer service.
- Collaborate with dispatchers and supervisors to optimize routes and resolve any delivery-related issues.
- Handle presorted mail and parcels with care to prevent damage during transportation.
- Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors, providing updates on delivery progress and any delays.
- Adhere to company policies and procedures, including those related to safety, security, and confidentiality.
- Responsible for picking up and delivering mail from our customers.
- Inspects products to verify conformance to customer specifications, and USPS regulations.
- Ensures that the mail is reviewed for proper dates, presort slugs and a pickup slip is attached with each order prior to loading the truck.
- Performing warehouse duties including wrapping pallets, stacking trays, and loading trucks.
- Maintains daily driver's log for mileage and cargo.
- Maintain documentation for customer pickups such as collecting signatures and tracking/documenting mail counts and assisting with mail-related questions.
- Keeps vehicle, production floor and area clean.
- Knows and understands safety and security precautions and follows company policies.
- Regular attendance.
- Uses all required cell phone applications.
- Other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications:
- Valid and clean driver's license with a proven record of safe driving.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Previous experience as a driver, preferably in a mail or package delivery environment.
- Familiarity with local roads, routes, and traffic patterns.
- Excellent organizational skills to manage multiple deliveries efficiently.
- Strong attention to detail to ensure accurate and error-free deliveries.
- Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to work independently while following instructions and guidelines.
- Physical capability to load and unload mail and parcels of varying sizes and weights.
- Flexibility to work variable hours, including weekends and holidays, as required.
- Ability to adapt to changing delivery routes and schedules.
- Demonstrates safety and security precautions and follows company policies.
- Valid state motor vehicle operator's license (State in which driver resides).
- Ability to drive a Straight Truck up to 26,000 GVWR.
- Basic Computer skills and ability to read a map and understand directions.
- Candidates must have a basic enough understanding of English to be able to understand and follow safety and other operational directions communicated in English, irrespective of their native language.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to walk; sit; use hands to, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
