POSITION PURPOSE

The Application Specialist is responsible for providing product, workflow, and solution expertise to prospects and end users of industrial printers distributed by Roland DG to be launched in Q They will work closely with the Industrial Products Sales Manager to perform demos, create samples, and engage in extensive activity with prospects. Time will be split between office-based presales activity and field training and application development for end users.

During the sales process, the Application Specialist will be responsible for demonstrating the suitability of industrial printers for specific customer requirements, as directed by the prospect and the Industrial Printer Sales Manager. This could include developing new techniques for image preparation, identifying primer, post-treatment options, or other elements of a complete printing system. Ongoing contact with the manufacturer's team will be required to ensure up-to-date knowledge of new features and capabilities, as well as communication of issues, challenges, and opportunities. Frequent communication with ink and material vendors will be necessary to stay abreast of new developments and solve end user problems.

Post-sale, they will train and support end users to implement industrial print technology effectively into the users' workflow. Software, material compatibility, and image quality support will be crucial to customer success, and are all included in the Application Specialists' responsibilities, along with cooperation with the manufacturer to develop fixtures for new object shapes as necessary. As part of the Industrial Print team, the Application Specialist will also communicate new findings and successes to marketing and the global New Market Development team for inclusion in case studies and documentation moving forward. The Industrial Products Application Specialist is expected to generate application related written and video content for inclusion in Roland DG's knowledge base, available to end users and other members of the Industrial Print Team around the world.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES

  • Strong working knowledge of UV inkjet hardware, ideally in an industrial environment.
  • Strong working knowledge of RIP and Design software, and print workflow assessment.
  • Be proactive in the development of new applications and workflows that fit customer needs. These should also be used as training tools.
  • Technical writing and documentation.
  • Work closely with manufacturer's team to develop custom fixtures for new applications.
  • Respond to specific requests with documentation of process and procedures to address custom applications.
  • Work closely with local and global Industrial Print Team to promote and document success stories and applications.
  • Train end users on the operation and maintenance of industrial print hardware.
  • Attends events to represent Roland DG and assist Marketing and Sales teams.
  • Be able to work onsite in person
  • Present at trade shows, and other events.
  • Travel of up to 50%
  • Ongoing reporting and recording of all customer interactions in Roland DG's CRM system

PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS

  • Team achievement of sales targets.
  • Documentation of workflow, applications, and success stories.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION: Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in printing, imaging technology, or similar. Engineering or other technical backgrounds are also welcome.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE:

  • Working knowledge of UV inkjet equipment operation.
  • Understanding of material compatibility, color management and workflow principles.
  • Ability to work closely with Sales, Marketing, Training, Event Coordinators, and Support
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Able to work both independently and in team

EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Arts/graphics, printing, imaging, screen printing, commercial printing
  • Recent college graduates with only co-op, internship, or related part-time experience will be considered

SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Operation of UV inkjet printing hardware and software
  • Troubleshooting and critical thinking skills are a must

  • Familiarity with existing print industry users and manufacturers
  • Technical understanding of specific applications software and outstanding computer/PC skills. must be comfortable with current graphic application: Photoshop, Illustrator, and CorelDraw. In addition, he/she must have excellent overall PC computing skills, including a thorough familiarity with MS Office applications in document composition, spreadsheet creation, and presentation management.

SALARY RANGE: $70,000 - $80,000

Ability to prepare business letters, proposals, summaries, and reports using prescribed format and conforming to all rules of punctuation, grammar, diction, and style.

Ability to conduct training, communicate at panel discussions and to make professional presentations.
