Key Project Requirements:

  • 8+ years of generator or rotating equipment engineering experience, including leadership or SME-level support.
  • Expert knowledge of generator design, operation, and maintenance across gas, diesel, and renewable applications.
  • Strong understanding of reliability engineering, system performance optimization, and failure analysis.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and codes such as ISO, IEEE, and UL.
  • Must live near a major airport and be willing to travel to plants and project sites

Job Summary:

NAES is seeking a Generator Technical Specialist to join our team. The Generator Technical Specialist will serve as the technical authority on generator systems, supporting the design, development, and optimization of generator assets across the operating fleet and client projects. This position plays a key role in improving generator reliability, performance, and compliance by providing expert guidance to project teams, operations, and maintenance personnel. The Generator Technical Specialist will drive initiatives related to system upgrades, testing, troubleshooting, and failure analysis while fostering a culture of safety, quality, and continuous improvement.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead technical efforts related to generator design, testing, and system optimization.
  • Develop, review, and maintain technical specifications, design documentation, and generator system standards.
  • Provide expert guidance on generator reliability, performance monitoring, and corrective actions.
  • Support failure analysis, root cause investigations, and engineering evaluations of generator components.
  • Collaborate with engineering, operations, and maintenance teams to resolve complex generator issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with applicable safety and regulatory standards.
  • Recommend design and process improvements to enhance reliability, efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
  • Participate in technical reviews, audits, and fleet assessments for generator systems.
  • Mentor engineering and technical staff on generator technologies and best practices.

Job Requirements:

  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional engineering initiatives and manage multiple projects.
  • Strong analytical and diagnostic skills for assessing generator performance and failure modes.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with executives, engineers, and client representatives.
  • Experience with generator control, excitation, and protection systems preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and implement technical standards and procedures.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel to plants and project sites.
  • Must be able to walk, stand, and climb during inspections.
  • Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as required at industrial or power generation sites.

Education / Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years of engineering experience in generator systems, rotating machinery, or power generation.
  • Prior experience with an OEM, EPC, or power generation service organization strongly preferred.
