You will have the opportunity to:
Manage a large team typically consisting of both experienced professionals and subordinate Managers.
Serve as the organizer of a coordinated and unified system of maintenance and custodial delivery for each area of campus recreation.
Develop and evaluate policies and procedures to ensure that facility use is in compliance with established departmental and university guidelines.
Assist with Capital improvement projects that are responsive to student needs and national trends
Oversee all incident and accident and critical incident reporting, including staff training and development surrounding incidents and accidents, sharing reports with appropriate staff members, follow up and assessment as necessary
Determine objectives, develop strategies and policies, manage human, financial, and physical resources
Monitor, maintain, and evaluate all assigned Budget accounts related to areas of supervision
Coordinate, review and assess all Student Recreation Center risk management planning and administration for Campus Recreation
Determine campus strategies for a program with campus wide impact.
Assist with CPR and First Aid training of Campus Recreation employees
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in recruiting, hiring, and training professional staff employees within a large, complex recreational facility.
- The Associate Director must be knowledgeable and experienced in risk management and safety practices as well as the methods utilized to train staff members on industry best practices.
- The Associate Director must be knowledgeable and experienced in managing regular and preventative maintenance and custodial operations within a large, complex recreational facility.
- The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in the development and administration of a large, complex operating budget.
- The Associate Director must have demonstrated experience in project management and space planning.
- The Associate Director must possess strong organizational and time management skills. Attention to detail and problem-solving skills are essential for success for all staffing areas.
Demonstrated strong conflict management skills and the ability to adjudicate conflict.
At a minimum you should have:
Bachelor's Degree and 7 years experience or equivalent including 3 years managerial experience
The preferred candidate will have:
Two or more years of experience supervising full-time professional and/or classified staff at an Assistant Director level or higher at a recreation center.
Two or more years of experience supervising custodial and/or maintenance professionals at the Assistant Director level or higher at a recreation center.
Two or more years of experience leading and/or coordinating capital construction projects at the Assistant Director level or higher.
Two or more years of experience developing and leading departmental risk management initiatives at the Assistant Director level or higher at a higher education institution.
Two or more years of experience supporting a facility with a pool and aquatics program at a higher education institution.
Experience in oral and written communication such as teaching: developing/delivering presentation content/materials; writing reports, proposals, professional correspondence, manuals; etc.
Experience working with a recreation-based membership management software application platform (Innosoft Fusion preferred)
Experience with facility management software (Connect 2 Concepts preferred)
Engagement in NIRSA, AORE, or other recreation professional associations
Experience programming or service delivery for a variety of communities
Salary and Benefits:
Salary range is $75,000-$80,000 annually and is commensurate with experience. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue throughout the application period.
