SUPPORTIVE EMPLOYMENT SPECIALIST - LIFE SKILLS PROGRAM

Title: Supportive Housing Communities (SHC) Employment Specialist – Life Skills Program

Duties: Support clients in developing job readiness skills and achieving meaningful

employment to promote long-term housing stability. Guide participants in setting

employment goals, building resumes, preparing for interviews, and securing

sustainable jobs. Collaborate with case management and housing teams to provide

coordinated, person-centered support that addresses both employment and housing

needs. Encourage independence and confidence through coaching, skill-building, and

consistent follow-up to ensure lasting success.

Employment Specialist – Life Skills Program

The primary responsibilities of the Employment Specialist include, but are not limited to, the

following:

  1. Conduct comprehensive employment assessments to identify clients' work experience,

education, transferable skills, and employment barriers.

  1. Develop individualized employment and vocational plans that align with clients' personal

goals and strengths.

  1. Provide one-on-one job readiness coaching, including résumé development, interview

practice, and job search assistance.

  1. Support clients in completing employment applications, preparing for interviews, and

navigating onboarding processes.

  1. Maintain strong relationships with local employers, workforce agencies, and community

partners to identify employment opportunities suitable for PSH participants.

  1. Collaborate closely with case managers and housing staff to coordinate support services that enhance clients' employment stability.

  2. Provide ongoing follow-up and retention support for clients after job placement to promote success and prevent setbacks.

  3. Facilitate small employment workshops and skill-building groups as needed.

  4. Track and document client progress, outcomes, and employment data accurately and timely In SHC's database (BitFocus).

  5. Stay informed of labor market trends, community job fairs, and vocational training programs that could benefit SHC clients.

  6. Complete initial and ongoing training and participate in staff development activities.

  7. Uphold the Supportive Housing Communities Policies and Procedures at all times.

  8. Uphold the Supportive Housing Communities Code of Ethics and the Social Work Code of Ethics at all times.

  9. Perform other duties assigned.

Position Requirements

  1. High Diploma, some collage, Associate's degree preferred

  2. Experience providing employment support, workforce development, or case management services preferred.

  3. Experience working with individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, or other barriers to employment strongly preferred.

  4. Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to engage and motivate clients toward self sufficiency.

  5. Knowledge of employment resources, job readiness programs, and community-based supports in Mecklenburg County.

  6. Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing.

  7. Strong organizational and time management skills.

  8. Ability to maintain confidentiality and establish trust with clients and community partners.

  9. Local travel required (mileage reimbursement provided).

  10. . May require occasional evening hours to meet client or program needs.

  11. . Part-time position, approximately 20–25 hours per week.

Job Type: Part-time

Pay: $ $22.00 per hour

Expected hours: 20 – 25 per week
