Job Summary
This full-time Floating Lead Mentor position is primarily gender responsive, serving male identifying participants. This position is intended to provide coverage gap support across all BTC programming, between Wednesday and Sunday. The Floating Lead Mentor will support participants who experience substance use, mental health disorders, homelessness, chronic or acute medical conditions, and other support needs for individuals located in Multnomah, Clackamas, and Washington counties. With the coordination of the Associate Director, the Floating Lead Mentor will be assigned shifts based on business necessity. The Floating Lead Mentor acts as a peer role model and documents the progress for each participant. The Floating Lead Mentor assists participants in engaging in harm-reduction supports and developing sustainable supports in various communities.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

- Serves a diverse population effectively, through management of an assigned caseload of participants while acting as a peer role modeling recovery.
- Performs random and as-needed urine drug screenings.
- Assists participants in developing a support network by introducing them to various models of recovery in the community and attending community support activities with them.
- Assesses needs of participants, connects them with applicable resources and develops a transition plan.
- Transports participants and encourages them to develop self-sufficiency.
- Assists participants in securing housing and employment, as needed.
- Completes daily progress notes in electronic medical records system.
- Works collaboratively with community partners in a professional manner, including regular interaction with participant's counselors and/or parole/probation officers.
- Facilitates classes and skill groups, as assigned.
- Maintains accurate and timely reports and documentation.
- Abides by organization policies and procedures, confidentiality laws, professional boundaries, peer support principles and relevant federal/state treatment regulations and standards.
- Participates in weekly supervision and meetings, as assigned.
- Role models exceptional mentor duties, and assists Program Manager/Supervisor with training teammates and resolving issues through effective problem solving.
- In the absence of the Program Manager/Supervisor, serves as the point of accountability and decision making for staff and community inquires.
- Assists Program Manager with various tasks to ensure contract compliance, quality assurance, accurate data collection/reporting, ethical practice and effective operations, including special projects, as assigned.
Experience, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
The following are the minimum levels required to successfully perform the Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities.
- Certified as a Peer Wellness Specialist within 90 days of hire, required
- State ORCHARDS BCU background check clearance, required
- Minimum 1 year of continuous sobriety, required and maintained
- Lived experience related to the population served; 2 years of verifiable recovery experience, required
- Personal vehicle, valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in accordance with Bridges to Change's auto liability policy requirements, required
- Demonstrated success at working effectively in a diverse, collaborative team environment, with skills in promoting inclusion and cultural responsiveness
- Experience with outreach efforts and activities within the tri-county area.
- Basic understanding of under-served populations within the tri-county area, and ability to offer/access appropriate resources.
- Experience in collaborating with community partners to identify shortcomings in the organization and in building partnerships to improve outcomes
- Experience with harm-reduction supports and engaging with community members who experience high support needs.
- Excellent communication, trauma informed approach and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with crisis prevention, intervention and response
- Experience with de-escalation techniques and ability to manage high risk population effectively
- Ability to maintain high professional standards at all times with participant, staff, and community partners
- Computer literate; functional ability with Microsoft programs.
- GED/High School Diploma, preferred
Working Conditions
Environment and Physical Requirements: The Floating Lead Mentor works in an office and community setting; the position frequently visits field locations including homes, medical centers, recovery centers, and other indoor and outdoor locations including camps or living sites of those who experience homelessness. Those locations are subject to a variety of environmental weather conditions including rain, snow, wind, and dust. The position frequently requires daily travel by the Outreach van and/or personal vehicle. The Floating Lead Mentor interacts constantly with staff, visitors, program participants, government agencies, and others. The position stands, walks, bends, lifts, and moves intermittently during working hours. The incumbent must be able to lift, push, pull and move files and equipment in excess of 15 pounds. This position may also be exposed to blood borne pathogens and/or bio- hazardous waste material in the field, as such, adequate training to prevent or limit exposure will be provided.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work: This is a full-time position. Days and hours of work are dependent on business needs and typically forty hours per week. The Floating Lead Mentor also travels extensively and may be required to occasionally work extended hours including evening, weekend and/or holiday work as job duties demand.
