Department Overview

The Pediatric Intermediate Care (PIMC) unit provides intermediate level care for Medical/Surgical patients 0-18 years of age, excluding obstetric patients.  Populations served include non-ICU Neurosurgical, Video EEG and spectrum scan, Peritoneal Dialysis, Chronic trach/ventilated patients, complex post –op patients including orthopedic spine patients, craniotomies, and nephrology surgeries, Select Hyperbilirubinemia, and Select Research Patients. 

The Pediatric Float Pool provides acute, intermediate, and critical nursing care to the six different units it supports. Our team has built out a successful pathway for new graduate RNs who thrive on learning a variety of skills.  

This is a full time, M-F Evening/Nights position with occasional weekend coverage or on call requirements as required by the department.



Function/Duties of Position

The Assistant Nurse Manager (ANM) is a registered nurse (RN) who is responsible for upholding excellence in the provision of nursing care through the implementation of the Profession Practice Model. The ANM, in association with the Nurse Manager, is responsible for the managerial and leadership functions within a patient environment. The ANM functions primarily on evening and nightshift hours to provide operational oversight, consistency and continuity. The ANM partners with the interdisciplinary care team to ensure the delivery of safe, quality patient care and compliance with regulatory standards, and administrative and clinical policies and procedures. The ANM performs managerial activities, and demonstrates effective leadership behaviors including performing evaluations, employee mentoring, coaching, and performance management. The ANM implements quality and safety initiatives, engages in process improvement, ensures adherence to bargaining unit agreements and human resource management. The ANM creates and sustains a patient care environment that supports a safe, knowledgeable, compassionate, productive, and engaged staff. 

The ANM's decisions and actions are based on ethical principles as outlined by the American Nurses Association. The ANM practices in adherence with the American Nurses Association's (ANA) Nursing Administration: Scope and Standards of Practice for Nurse Administrators, the ANA Code of Ethics, then Oregon State Board Nurse Practice Act, and within the context of the Nurse Executive Competencies developed by the American Organization of Nurse Executives (AONE). Responsible for operational, quality, human resources, financial, strategic and clinical management of the Pediatric Intermediate Care and Pediatric Float Pool units under the direction of the Intermediate Care Nurse Manager. Works cooperatively and supportively with all staff and interdisciplinary team members to provide patient satisfaction, and high quality, safe care of patients. Maintains clinical competency in acute care nursing to provide occasional nursing responsibilities to support daily operations. Participates in projects and improvement initiatives in alignment with the OHSU Tier one priorities and Strategic Plan



Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 2 years relevant clinical with strong charge nurse experience
  • BSN or higher degree in nursing
  • Unencumered Oregon RN License
  • BLS for healthcare provider
  • Specialty certification Job Specific (ACLS, NRP, etc.)
  • Certification in Specialty or NE-BC


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in nursing or a related field
  • Previous management experience
  • Nurse executive certification
