Mechanical Project Manager

The Mechanical Project Manager oversees all mechanical aspects of commercial construction projects, including HVAC and Plumbing. This role ensures projects are completed safely, on time, within budget, and in compliance with design specifications, quality standards, and client expectations.
The Mechanical PM acts as the primary liaison between clients, design teams, subcontractors, and internal project teams.
Project Planning & Coordination
Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and cost reports for mechanical scopes.
- Review design drawings, specifications, and submittals for accuracy and constructability.
- Coordinate mechanical design and installation with other trades (electrical, structural, architectural).
- Lead project kickoff and coordination meetings with clients, engineers, and subcontractors.
Construction Management
Oversee and direct mechanical subcontractors and field teams to ensure quality workmanship and adherence to project timelines.
- Conduct regular site visits to monitor progress, resolve issues, and ensure compliance with safety standards.
- Review and approve RFIs, change orders, and material submittals.
- Ensure mechanical systems meet performance testing and commissioning requirements.
Financial Oversight
Manage project budgets, forecasts, and cost tracking.
- Negotiate pricing and contracts with vendors and subcontractors.
- Review and approve invoices, change orders, and payment applications.
Quality & Safety
Enforce company safety policies and OSHA compliance on all mechanical work.
- Maintain high standards of workmanship and adherence to QA/QC protocols.
- Ensure proper documentation for inspections, testing, and commissioning.
Client & Stakeholder Relations
Serve as the primary point of contact for clients on mechanical scopes.
- Provide regular progress reports and updates.
Foster strong relationships with owners, engineers, and trade partners.
Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Experience: 5–10 years of experience managing mechanical systems on commercial construction projects (e.g., healthcare, education, retail, office, or industrial).
Technical Skills:
Strong understanding of HVAC and Plumbing.
- Familiarity with construction drawings, mechanical codes, and industry standards.
- Proficiency with project management software (e.g., Procore, Bluebeam, MS Project).
- Ability to read and interpret mechanical design documents and specifications.
Soft Skills:
Excellent leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
