Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe e.V. is a German Christian non-governmental organisa-tion, dedicated to excellence in the field of first aid, ambulance service, social service programmes and other projects in the medical and social field. Johanniter International Assistance (JIA) is the operational unit for humanitarian aid. The Federal Headquarters (HQ) is based in Berlin, Germany. Background
Johanniter International Assistance seeks to strengthen and expand its professional network as part of its organisational development strategy. One key initiative is targeted training for staff and local partners. These sessions aim to enhance capacity, further connect Johanniter with skilled public health professionals, and help build a trusted pool of trainers for future technical support and programme implementation.
Scope of Work
Responsibilities
Volunteer consultants will be responsible for preparing and delivering training content on specific public health topics, which have been determined by a training needs assessment conducted in June 2025. The identified topics for training fall into five (5) broad categories as listed below:
- General Public Health
- Maternal and Child Health
- Nutrition
- WASH
- Integration of other sectors with health
Expected Deliverables
To Ensure Effective Knowledge Transfer And Accountability, Each Training Engagement Will Be Guided By Clearly Defined Outputs. These Deliverables Are Intended To Promote Structured Facilitation, Meaningful Participation, And Continuous Improvement. The Following Key Components Will Be Expected From All Training Activities
- Training session plan and presentation materials in English, which would be adapted to the context and audience needs.
- Delivery of virtual training sessions as agreed
- Brief post-session report summarizing attendance, key issues raised, and recommendations
- Training feedback forms
Duration and Timing
The engagement of volunteer consultants will be on a flexible, short-term basis depending on training needs. Engagements may be one‑off or repeat sessions over the course of the year, depending on mutual interest, availability, and programme needs. Sessions may be scheduled monthly or quarterly, upon further discussions with the Global Health Advisor. Each session is expected to last between 1.5 to 3 hours.
Coordination and Support
Volunteer consultants will coordinate with the Global Health Advisor, their main contact point, to align on training content and session logistics. Regular communication will help ensure smooth delivery and responsiveness to participant needs.
Reporting and Supervision
Volunteer consultants will report to the Global Health Advisor and maintain close communication to discuss the technical content of sessions and coordinate with participants.
Selection Criteria
Volunteer consultants will be selected based on the following criteria:
- Relevant academic or professional background in public health and related fields
- Proven experience delivering training or capacity-building sessions
- Strong communication and facilitation skills
- Availability to volunteer on an occasional basis
How to apply
Volunteer Terms & Expression of Interest
This is a voluntary, non-remunerated position, however, reasonable pre-approved expenses (e.g., internet data for virtual sessions may be reimbursed where relevant. Consultants will be provided with a certificate of appreciation and recognition for their contribution to staff development and may be acknowledged in relevant organizational communications.
Following the successful delivery of a training session, volunteers will be included in Johanniter's expert roster for potential future engagement opportunities, subject to mutual interest and availability.
We welcome applicants who can deliver training in English, French, Arabic, and Portuguese. Volunteers are expected to uphold Johanniter's safeguarding, confidentiality, and code of conduct requirements.
