Job Summary

The Admissions Officer is responsible for providing professional knowledge, advice and counseling skills regarding the undergraduate student admissions and recruitment process. This position provides high-level coordination and review of the undergraduate admissions process. Travel is an essential function to this role and may require up to 4-6 weeks in the fall and 2-3 weeks in the spring.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Develop and implement strategies of the admissions plan.
  • Administers admissions policies and procedures for specific programs and activities.
  • Counsel's prospective students, parents, educational administrators and other interested people regarding admissions requirements, policies, and procedures.
  • Manage assigned territory for recruitment of prospective students inclusive of travel planning and meetings with high school counselors, students, and other professionals.
  • Promote University opportunities to prospective students by developing and delivering presentations to high schools, businesses, and organizations.
  • Regularly gathers and analyzes information on application and enrollment trends to determine proper workloads.
  • Provide administrative management and coordination of admissions functions and reporting.
  • Reviews admissions applications and makes admissions decisions.
  • Using established policy, evaluates college course credit and records.
  • Coordinate information sessions and event planning for admissions activities.
  • Supervise the assigned student workers as appropriate and coordinate their daily tasks and schedules.
  • Act as the main contact for the assigned admissions process.
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of the admissions process to train staff, pinpoint and resolve issues and serve as a backup for assigned supervisor.
  • Establish a high level of integrity and ethical behavior in dealing with confidential information.
  • Research and confirms applicant residency status and maintains up to date admissions policies and procedures.
  • Attend university meetings and participate in committees as needed.
  • Manages the interactions between the office and outside service providers.
  • May recommend policy and procedural changes to improve efficiency and effectiveness in Admissions recruitment and/or enrollment practices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree.
  • One (1) year of experience counseling students in admissions, financial aid, or in a closely related area.
  • May accept a combination of education and experience.

Preferred Education / Experience

  • Master's degree.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Required Certifications/Licenses

  • Texas Driver's License (or receive within 30 days of hire date).

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
