Job Summary

Responsible for assuming a leadership role with interdisciplinary team to achieve the desired goals and resource outcomes. Responsible for acquiring working knowledge of and maintaining ongoing understanding of required practices, procedures and processes to meet and exceed regulatory compliance standards. Adheres to the Mission, Vision, and Values of UT Health Science Center at Tyler.

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

Establish an Initial interdisciplinary treatment (IDT) plan that contains all required elements.

Have the clinical nursing skills and competencies necessary to perform the essential tasks of this position as well as the essential tasks of the staff RN on a Behavioral Health Unit.

Attend morning report and Recovery Team meetings.

Assist patients (as needed) to complete PHQ-9 for Outcomes Project (at admission and discharge).

Record PHQ-9 scores as available.

Obtain medical records (and patient's corresponding written consent) as requested by physician.

Answer questions and provide education regarding diagnoses or medication regimen with families via telephone as requested.

Respect hospital policies and rules and make ethical decisions based upon consent and confidentiality.

Collaborate with nursing staff and attending doctors in establishing patient admission, discharge or transfer.

Completion of Annual Mandatory Training, SAMA training, TB testing, and required licensure and certifications before expiration date.

Accountable for the identification and reduction of unsafe practices that could cause harm to patients.

Required Education/Experience

Graduation from an accredited school of nursing. BSN preferred.

Three (3) years' RN experience.

Two (2) years' RN experience in a Behavioral Health or Psychiatric area.

Bilingual is a plus.

- EMR experience preferred.

Required Licenses/Certifications

Must possess and maintain a current RN license to practice in Texas.

Must possess and maintain current BLS certification.

Current SAMA training preferred at hire.

- Specialty certification is preferred at hire and preferred within 12 months of eligibility (ie: Certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse).

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Competencies

Knowledge of standard patient care equipment, supplies, and mechanical devices for the selected patient population.

  • Skill in observing and evaluating behavioral changes in individuals served in a psychiatric setting.
    Standard hospital related office equipment.

    The ability to interact with co-workers, customers and visitors in a professional manner.

    This position requires the ability to follow directions, maintain confidentiality, trustworthiness, orderliness, accuracy, punctual attendance during stated hours of work.
  • Constantly communicating effectively, exchanging accurate information, using judgment.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
