ABOUT The Part-Time Public Safety Officer is a part-time position responsible to the Campus Police Lieutenant. This position provides service and information to students, employees and visitors; responsible for enforcing the regulations pertaining to the parking of vehicles on College property; directing traffic; patrolling College property to safeguard buildings and property under the control and jurisdiction of Tyler Junior College. WHAT YOU WILL DO Provide service to students, employees and visitorsWrite reportsCheck permits on vehicles entering and parked on campus, direct flow of traffic, and parking of cars when neededIssue parking permits and parking violation citations when neededPatrol buildings and grounds to check for fires, water leaks, potential security and safety hazards, and general building security, reporting all irregularities, emergencies or suspicious activityEnsure all personnel entering campus are properly identified; issue visitor badges and maintain a log of all issued badgesProvide directions to buildings and offices, and answer other general information questions for visitors Patrol buildings and grounds on foot or in a vehicle to provide security and prevent crime; write reports on incidents occurring on campusPerform other related duties as requiredCompetenciesKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesShould have the physical and mental capabilities to properly carry out responsibilities and duties as a Public Safety OfficerWork requires the ability to make frequent minor decisions and occasional decisions of some significanceWork is reviewed for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with departmental policy and procedure WHO YOU ARE Required Education/ExperienceGraduation from high school, vocational school or equivalentRequired Certifications/LicensuresMust possess a valid driver's license and be eligible to drive a College-owned and/or leased motor vehicle ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Physical RequirementsDuties involve driving, walking, running, standing, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing, jumping over, pulling, carrying, reaching above head, lifting, lowering, hand-wrist and elbow motion, grasping, and holdingWorking ConditionsExposure to variable weather conditionsWorking on any one of three shifts with varying days off and holidaysWork involves a degree of hazardOther ExpectationsPerform other duties as assigned
