Job Duties

The Virginia Department of Health Profession's (DHP) mission is to ensure safe and competent patient care by licensing health professionals, enforcing standards of practice, and providing information to health care practitioners and the public.

This position performs a variety of fiscal duties requiring the knowledge of accounting functions or principles, general business practices, collection procedures, and/or applicable computer systems. The individual in this position will research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate financial and operational data. This position requires knowledge of agency, state and federal laws, rules and regulations with the ability to apply this knowledge in the daily performance of duties. The position interacts frequently with internal and external customers using both verbal and written communication skills to discuss financial processes or issues. This position will assist other staff members in all of the Financial Services Division functional areas to support the division's strategic and tactical cross- training goals, ensuring that workflow continues uninterrupted during peak processing periods and unexpected events throughout the performance cycle.

Minimum Qualifications

• Basic knowledge of Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB).
• Working knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
• Working knowledge of state and federal laws, rules and regulations.
• Demonstrated ability to research, investigate, analyze, reconcile, and evaluate data.
• Demonstrated ability to apply, interpret, or assess existing policies, procedures, laws, and regulations with potentially considerable financial or operational impact on the agency, program participants, and the general public.
• Demonstrated ability to interact with internal and external customers using both verbal and written skills to prepare

reports and discuss financial processes or issues requiring effective communication skills.

• Ability to make independent and logical decisions and/or recommendations.
• Ability to manage time and assignments to effectively meet deadlines, multi-task, and work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, automated environment.
• Working knowledge of QuickBooks.
• Working knowledge of internal control processes and procedures related to business processes.
• Ability to provide project or team leadership.
• Proficient in the use of all MS Office Suite applications, specifically Excel and Word.

Additional Considerations

• Prior work experience in an accounting, finance, banking, or similar settings.
• Experience with the Commonwealth Accounting Policies and Procedures (CAPP) manual, particularly in the area of general accounting, cash management and reconciliations.
• Experience with the Commonwealth Accounting System (Cardinal).
• Demonstrated database experience with System Automation's MyLicense Office (MLO) system.
