In support of this goal, we are looking for an Ocular Processing Technician to join our team in our San Antonio office.
What does an Ocular Processing Technician do?
The Ocular Processing Technician plays a vital role in ensuring that the gift of donation is honored through the timely and thoughtful procurement of ocular tissues for corneal transplant. Specific responsibilities are noted below.
Tissue Processing:
- Perform VisionGraft / Sclera / Bottle Filling processing per CorneaGen policies and procedures.
- Perform processing for Bioburden/Dose Audit testing.
- Perform basic cornea processing and other processing duties as needed.
Laboratory Support and Maintenance:
- Perform VisionGraft / Sclera processing laboratory and equipment maintenance per CorneaGen policies and procedures.
- Maintain legible and accurate documentation on all hard copy forms, logs and binders related to daily, weekly, and monthly VisionGraft / Sclera processing laboratory and equipment maintenance.
- Perform laboratory cleaning maintenance: cleaning and disinfecting of equipment and fixtures for the Ocular Processing Room, not limited to, ocular microscope, microkeratome, HEPA Hood, slit-lamp, specular microscope, and autoclaves.
- Perform other duties as delegated by Processing Team Lead in laboratory maintenance, quality control, documentation, irradiation testing, training and research.
Production Workflow Management
- Assist with the coordination of testing requests for Bioburden/Dose Audit and environmental monitoring.
- Perform in-process receiving and labelling of ocular tissues.
- Perform long term storage final packaging, box assembly, final labelling.
Documentation and Record Keeping
- Maintain documentation of in-process tissue as required, updating records at each step in the process.
- Review and release long term storage donor tissues and SLNs into inventory.
- Maintain confidentiality of donor related information.
What else should I know about this position?
This is a full-time hourly position, the weekly schedule will include at a minimum one weekend day. Due to the nature of this work, this position is 100% in-person – remote work is not available for this role.

Not a problem We will provide on-the-job training to give you the skills and knowledge needed to become an Ocular Processing Technician All we ask of you is that:
- A Bachelor of Science degree in a life science field is preferred or equivalent education/experience in an allied health care field.
- Your previous work experience demonstrates that you can collaborate with others on a team, have a strong attention to detail, and can communicate effectively (written, verbal, etc.) within a professional work environment.
- Ability to maintain a professional demeanor and confidentiality.
- Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in compliance with Standard Operating Procedures.
- Must have a reliable / dependable vehicle
- Must have valid drivers' license with an insurable driving record.
What compensation and benefits do you offer?
The minimum wage for this position is $21.39 hourly to maximum $23.64 hourly. Individual compensation will vary within this range based on a candidate's skills, qualifications, and experience as they relate to the requirements for this position.
