Job Summary/Objective:
Sweet Briar College invites applications for a tenure-track position in the Education Department at any level to start July 1, 2026. Rank will be determined based on experience. In this position the faculty member will serve as director of the education program and teach courses that lead to teacher licensure in both our undergraduate and graduate programs. The successful candidate will be an engaged scholar-teacher with expertise in the areas of curriculum, assessment, differentiated instruction, and action research. The faculty member will also be responsible for supervising clinical and student teaching experiences and advising undergraduate and graduate students in our Masters of Arts in Teaching (M.A.T.). Previous experience with national accreditation of education programs is preferred. Teaching load is 3 course equivalents per semester and may be adjusted based on administrative needs.
At Sweet Briar College, elementary education and teaching majors may earn a B.A. and licensure in four years or earn a M.A.T. with licensure in a five-year program. Students also can earn teacher licensure in secondary education in biology, chemistry, English, history and social science, or mathematics and PreK-12 education in dance arts, theatre arts, or visual arts through the M.A.T. Program.

Other Essential Responsibilities:
- Coordinate and lead meetings and activities for program faculty and staff and the Teacher Education Advisory Council (TEAC);
- Serves as a point of contact to the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) and CAEP state representatives;
- Schedule availability of courses per semester;
- Ensure required reports for CAEP and VDOE are filed accurately and on time;
- Attend meetings held by Virginia Department of Education, Virginia Education Assessment Collective, and Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation;
- Analyze and interpret program data to improve program curricula;
- Support admissions and completion of the teacher education program by identifying and tracking pre-service teachers' and teacher candidates' milestones throughout the program;
- Communicate and collaborate with students, faculty, community, and P-12 partners the mission of the program and college;
- Host informative session meetings with students about the MAT program, teacher licensure tests, and other program requirements;
- Participate in recruitment and retention initiatives for the Education program;
- Contribute to developing program assessments for the program quality assurance system;
- Contribute to writing the quarterly newsletters with faculty and staff to update students on the program's current events, opportunities, accomplishments, and milestones of the program;
- Other duties to support the effective functioning and growth of the program; and
- Foster an environment of belonging and respect that supports the success of all members of the Sweet Briar community.
Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. or Ed.D. in Education or related field;
- At least three years of K-12 teaching experience;
- Demonstrated excellence in teaching at undergraduate level;
- Demonstrated interest in working across disciplines and engaging in collaborative scholarship, teaching, and service;
- Excellent communication skills;
- Demonstrates ability to handle several responsibilities and manage important deadlines; and
- Knowledge of the process of obtaining teacher certification.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with national accreditation of Education programs through the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP).
- Experience with strategic planning, leadership, budgeting, and management.
