Job Summary
We are seeking a motivated Junior Network Engineer to join our dynamic IT team. This role involves supporting and maintaining our network infrastructure, ensuring high availability, security, and optimal performance across various platforms. Responsibilities
- Assist in the design, implementation, and maintenance of LAN, WAN, and data center networks.
- Support the configuration and management of Cisco routers, switches (including Meraki), Cisco ASA firewalls, and Juniper devices.
- Monitor network performance using tools such as SolarWinds, PRTG, and Splunk; troubleshoot issues related to TCP/IP protocols, routing protocols (OSPF, BGP, EIGRP), and network security.
- Implement and support VPNs (IPsec, SSL), VLANs, load balancing solutions, and high-availability configurations.
- Conduct vulnerability assessments and participate in vulnerability mitigation efforts to ensure network security compliance.
- Assist with system administration tasks on Linux distributions (Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS, openSUSE) and Windows environments; support virtualization platforms like VMware vSphere and vCenter.
- Support cloud security initiatives within AWS and Azure environments; manage remote access software and network installation projects.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams using Agile methodologies to ensure smooth SDLC processes for network projects.
- Document network configurations, procedures, and support tickets; contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology or related field; relevant certifications are a plus (e.g., CCNA, CompTIA Network+).
- Foundational knowledge of computer networking concepts including LAN/WAN architecture, TCP/IP stack, DHCP/DNS/FTP/SFTP protocols.
- Experience with Cisco ISE for network access control; familiarity with Cisco ASA firewalls and Meraki devices is desirable.
- Understanding of network security principles including encryption (SSL/TLS), authentication (LDAP, SSO), VPNs (IPsec), IDS/IPS systems.
- Basic scripting skills in Python or Bash; experience with Ansible or PowerShell is advantageous for automation tasks.
- Knowledge of virtualization technologies such as VMware vSphere or Citrix; experience with cloud platforms like AWS or Azure is preferred.
- Ability to perform vulnerability assessments using tools like SolarWinds or Splunk; understanding of high availability architectures and load balancing solutions.
- Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to analyze complex network issues efficiently.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively within a team environment.
