Field Safety Specialist – Corrigan Company (St. Louis, MO)
Location: St. Louis, MO (frequent travel to job sites in the area)
Reports to: Safety Director
Employment Type: Full-time
Job Summary:
Corrigan Company is seeking a Field Safety Manager to oversee and lead safety efforts on our construction job sites. This role is hands-on in the field, ensuring employees and subcontractors follow safety standards, conducting inspections, deliver training, and managing incident investigations.
The ideal candidate is proactive, observant, and skilled at influencing field crews to maintain a safe work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct regular job site safety inspections and audits to identify hazards and unsafe practices.
- Lead pre-task planning sessions with field teams.
- Deliver safety training and orientation to employees and subcontractors.
- Investigate accidents, near-misses, and incidents and implement corrective actions.
- Ensure compliance with OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and other regulatory requirements.
- Facilitate daily toolbox talks and weekly safety meetings on job sites.
- Coach and mentor field supervisors, foremen, and craft workers on safe work practices.
- Promote a proactive safety culture in the field.
- Recommend improvements to PPE use, equipment safety, and jobsite practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in safety, Construction Management, Environmental Science, or a related field is preferred, but not required. Equivalent field experience will also be considered.
- Experience: 5+ years of field-based safety experience in construction, mechanical, or industrial contracting environments.
- Certifications: OSHA 30 required; CHST, or other safety certifications preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations and construction safety standards.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong observation, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
- Leadership and coaching abilities.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Other Requirements: Valid driver's license; ability to navigate and work on construction sites (heights, ladders, etc.).
Working Conditions:
- Primarily field-based with frequent travel between local job sites.
- Exposure to construction environments, noise, heights, and use of PPE required.
- May involve working outside normal business hours as project schedules demand.
