Position Type: Full-time

Position Duration: 3 years. This role is partly funded through MassSave utility contributions overseen by the MA Department of Public Utilities (Workforce Equity Program) that extend through December 2028.

Pay: $70,000 - $78,000 per year, dependent on experience and education

Job Overview

MassCEC is seeking a Content Creation Manager to join our Marketing and Communications (MarComms) team. This role manages MassCEC's content production across digital and print channels, ensuring high-quality, engaging, and accessible storytelling that advances MassCEC's mission while staying on brand. The Content Creation Manager will oversee blogs, social media, visual media/video production, marketing collaterals, and other external-facing written materials, while supporting flagship publications like the MassCEC Annual Report. This person may also manage or work closely with the Digital Marketing Fellow. Some travel and occasional evening/weekend work may be required.

Core Responsibilities:

Strategy & Planning

  • Develop, implement, and refine content and social media strategies aligned with MarComms goals and organizational mission.
  • Maintain and manage a centralized content calendar across blogs, social media, and other publications.
  • Align content with MassCEC's strategic priorities, messaging framework, equity commitments, and brand standards.
  • Advance content goals by proactively recommending content topics and ideas that align with MassCEC objectives.
  • Monitor performance metrics and use insights to guide continuous improvement.
  • Anticipate communication needs by aligning content with key milestones, funding cycles, and industry trends.
  • Uphold established content creation best practices and proactively identify opportunities to enhance processes and outcomes.

Blog Development & Management

  • Partner with program teams and external partners to identify story opportunities to showcase program impact.
  • Review, edit, and proofread blog submissions from internal contributors and external partners, ensuring each submission meets content standards and best practices.
  • Research, pitch, and write compelling articles that align with content themes, highlight program impact, and emphasize MassCEC's thought leadership.
  • Translate technical or scientific concepts into accessible, engaging content for diverse audiences.
  • Apply SEO best practices to increase visibility and readership.

Social Media Management

  • Review, edit, and proof social media submissions from internal contributors and external partners, ensuring alignment with social media standards and best practices.
  • Write, schedule, and publish social media posts; manage approvals and ensure timeliness.
  • Stay current on platform updates and emerging social media trends, leveraging them to expand reach and engage new audiences.
  • Track, analyze, and report on performance metrics to optimize reach and engagement.

Annual Report Development & Management

  • Collaborate across departments to collect stories, data, and visuals for MassCEC's Annual Report and other publications.
  • Draft, edit, and proof content; oversee layout, graphics, and photography.
  • Ensure publication highlight MassCEC's mission, impact, and achievements with compelling design and storytelling.

Visual Assets Design & Management

  • Work with program teams to capture visuals that reflect initiatives, events, and impact.
  • Design social graphics, flyers, and digital assets to complement blog, social media, and other written content ensuring consistency with brand guidelines.
  • Lead video production from concept through filming, editing, and publishing.
  • Photograph events and edit photos for use across channels; manage Canto digital assets library.
  • Manage photograph/video coverage request for events.
  • Manage equipment and software, ensuring the team has the tools needed for high-quality content production.

Writing, Editing, Proofreading

  • Write, edit, proofread external-facing content for MassCEC's website, blog, social media, marketing collateral
  • Work closely with program teams to fact-check and translate technical material into clear, accessible language for target audiences.
  • Uphold journalistic standards, including accuracy, integrity, and adherence to AP style.
  • Ensure all content communicates complex ideas clearly and concisely, while maintaining accessibility for a general audience.

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in digital media, marketing, communications, journalism, or a related field (or equivalent professional experience).
  • 4-6 years of experience in content creation, digital media, marketing communications, and/or social media management.
  • Strong writing, editing, and storytelling skills, with the ability to craft engaging narratives and communicate complex ideas clearly and concisely across platforms.
  • Familiarity with AP style, journalistic ethics, and best practices in online publishing.
  • Excellent research and fact-checking abilities, with a commitment to accuracy and objectivity.
  • Fluency with current affairs and ability to translate technical or scientific material into accessible content.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and manage content calendars.
  • Social media–savvy and enthusiastic about exploring creative and engaging ways to reach the public.
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere) and Canva, with a strong eye for design.
  • Experience with video production, from concept through filming and editing, and ability to manage cameras and video equipment.
  • Skilled in photography and maintaining/editing a photo library (e.g., Canto).
  • Familiarity with SEO principles and strategies for optimizing content.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with program teams, grantees, and diverse stakeholders.

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and weekends, with some travel required.
  • Valid driver's license.
