This role requires 3-5 years of Medical Assistant experience
Primary Duties And Responsibilities
The Outpatient Care Coordinator assists with scheduling tests and treatments, including the coordination of multiple appointments amongst several different departments, programs and specialties. The responsibilities of this position include insurance verification, assisting with the pre-authorization process, and acting as a liaison between the pre-authorization team, physician office and patient. The Care Coordinator provides updates to the patient and doctors on timing and status of the authorizations as delays or insurance denying a pre-authorization could have an impact on the patient's health and/or testing and treatment options. Once the pre-authorization is complete and the appointments scheduled, the Care Coordinator provides the patient with an itinerary when possible. Assists with referrals as requested. Links family/patient to resources as needed. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education and Experience
Required:

  • High School diploma or equivalent with 2+ years of patient access or related healthcare experience
  • Must possess strong knowledge in hospital scheduling, registration and insurance verification processes

Preferred

  • 2-3 years hospital or outpatient based patient care coordination experience (Medical Assistant)
  • Knowledge and understanding of patients benefits, plan coverage and claim responsibility
