Position Overview – Librarian (Bilingual Preferred: English/Spanish)

Under the general supervision of the City Administrator, the Librarian will plan, direct, and coordinate daily library operations, programs, and resources in alignment with professional library standards and the unique needs of our residents.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Library Science, Education, Information Studies, Communications, or a related field.
  • (A Master's in Library Science is preferred but not required.)
  • 3–4 years of professional or public library experience preferred.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) – preferred
  • Possession of a valid state-issued driver's license.
  • Must successfully pass a background check, drug screening, and physical examination.

Essential duties include but are not limited to the following:

  • Plan, organize, and implement annual programs and activities for all age groups.
  • Monitor and manage the library budget, expenditures, and resource allocation.
  • Prepare and submit budgetary and procurement recommendations.
  • Develop, present, and promote library programs, classes, and special events.
  • Provide excellent customer service and resolve patron inquiries and concerns.
  • Assist patrons with reference services, locating materials, and using library technology.
  • Coordinate with other city departments to share resources and information.
  • Coordinate and oversee meetings of the Library Board, including preparing reports, agendas, and updates on library activities.
  • Prepare and present monthly reports of library activities at department meetings.
  • Participate in local, state, and national library associations.
  • Research, apply for, and manage library grants, including reporting requirements.
  • Assist in creating the monthly city newsletter.
  • Manage the library's social media presence and website content.
  • Maintain current knowledge of public library practices, long-range planning, and integrated library systems.
  • Consistent attendance and availability during regular library operating hours.
  • Serve as an active member of the FunCo Team, a city employee organization that plans fun and engaging events for staff, promoting teamwork and a positive workplace culture.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the City Administrator.

Special Events and Community Engagement

  • Plan, coordinate, and promote the Summer Reading Program and other community events
  • Patriciate in design and producing newsletters, flyers, brochures, and invitations for city programs and events
  • Support citywide activities, luncheons, and employee events
  • Availability to work evenings and weekends for special programs or events

Other Duties:

  • Attend meetings, conferences, and training sessions as required
  • Support other departments as directed by the City Administrator or designee
  • Maintain a professional appearance and a positive, team-oriented attitude
  • Participating in various employee committees as assigned

Physical Demands:

  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, and computer use
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, or kneeling
  • Work is performed in a typical library environment with moderate noise levels

Compensation:

  • Hourly Rate: $20.00 – $21.63 per hour (DOE; competitive with similar-sized cities)

Schedule:

  • Monday – Thursday: 1:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
  • Friday: Closed
  • Part-time hours, working 20 hours per week, with the flexibility to work up to 24 hours per week during special events or community programs

Benefits:

  • Participation in Federal Social Security
  • Option to contribute to a 457(b)-retirement plan (employee-funded)
  • Longevity Pay each December, based on continuous years of service

Other benefits:

  • Not available for this position due to part-time status
