Axis is looking for an experienced conventional machinist to join our team. Axis is a conventional machine shop (no CNC or production work is performed) providing one off parts that are used in pumps, turbine and rotating equipment. We are a speciality company that has been in business for over 16 years and provides field and shop repairs for commercial and industrial customers. Our facility offers lathe/turning,horizontal boring and milling capabilities with our own in house mechanics and fleet of service vehicles. An ideal candidate is a seasoned craftsman with knowledge of machining operations on pump, turbine, and other equipment .

Knowledge:

  • Familiarity with pump and motor function and design
  • Understanding of machining speeds, feeds, and tooling
  • Knowledge of pump and turbine components, critical fits, and surfaces
  • Proficient at operating boring mills, lathes, mills and grinding

Job Responsibilities:

  • Fabricate parts and tooling
  • Use precision measuring tools
  • Inspect machinery and adjust as needed
  • Ensure compliance with safety regulations
  • Work with the mechanics to find repair solutions
  • Operate lathes, mills, horizontal boring mill safely and efficiently

Skills and Abilities:

  • Perform high-quality, efficient work independently
  • Proficiency with measuring equipment (ID & OD micrometers, dial indicators)
  • Expertise in advanced machining operations, including complex parts and milling setups
  • Complete company documentation accurately and promptly
  • Must be proficient in the use of all types of gauges, micrometers, verniers, etc. Hoist fixtures, chucks, collets, steady rests, etc. Normal hand tools for machinists. Drills, taps, honing equipment, bars, etc.
  • Must have a well-rounded knowledge of fabrication and assembly techniques, tools and equipment, materials and shop equipment.
  • Must know the working qualities of a wide variety of materials including cast iron, steel, aluminium, copper, brass and other metals and plastics.
  • Must possess good mechanical aptitude demonstrated as success in previous machine operation or like activities.
  • Must possess good manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination.
