Job Summary
Mainframe Engineer – Freddie Mac, Plano, TX

  • Serve as a senior member of the mainframe infrastructure team, focusing on z/OS systems.
  • Oversee and monitor the work of a managed service mainframe vendor, especially regarding contract compliance, auditing, and security.
  • Act as a liaison for internal communication and troubleshooting related to vendor activities.
  • Ensure operational security compliance and sustainability of mainframe systems (not hands-on system changes).
  • Coordinate deployments, patching, and upgrades with internal stakeholders when required by the vendor.
  • Identify technical risks associated with system upgrades and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Analyze, review, and resolve system problems; recommend improvements for upgrades and enhancements.
  • Maintain compliance with security policies, focusing on monitoring and auditing rather than direct implementation.
  • Utilize expertise in z/OS architectures, mainframe security, and related IBM mainframe tools (JCL, CICS, SQL, DB2, IMS, VSAM, XML, TSO/ISPF).
  • Support mainframe security audits, findings (BSCs, key management), and pervasive encryption as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and project management skills.
