The Opportunity

This is a unique opportunity for a motivated and experienced professional to be the architect of our financial and operational infrastructure. We are looking for a
Director of Finance

who thrives in a hands-on role and is excited by the prospect of being both a strategic leader and a meticulous executor. As the sole full-time member of the finance department, you will manage all day-to-day accounting, controller, and people operations functions. This pivotal, investor and board-facing role
reports directly to the CFO

and works in close partnership with the CEO and executive team to drive the company's success and scalable growth. 

Key Initial Project

  • Lead the critical, near-term project of transitioning the company's books from a cash basis to a full accrual basis of accounting.

Core Responsibilities

Controllership & Core Accounting

  • Manage all accounting operations using
    Xero

, including General Ledger, A/P, and revenue recognition.
- Execute the quarterly and year-end closing processes accurately and on time.
- Own the Accounts Receivable process, including detailed reporting by customer, reconciliations, and managing the collections workflow in collaboration with the Customer Success team.
- Own and manage the hands-on Annual Recurring Revenue (ARR) reporting process, including calculations for Committed ARR (CARR) and Live ARR, and perform invoice-to-ARR reconciliations.
- Manage all bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Oversee expense reporting and reimbursement processes.

Financial Planning, Analysis & Strategy

  • Own the end-to-end process for the company's monthly cash flow forecast; this is a mandatory, core function of the role.
  • Own the annual accrual-based budgeting and financial forecasting processes.
  • Prepare and present a package of three core financial reports for investors and the board on a quarterly basis.
  • Develop and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to drive business performance.
  • Build and maintain sophisticated financial models to support strategic initiatives, fundraising efforts, and long-range planning.

HR & People Operations

  • Own the core HR functions for the company.
  • Manage the multi-state payroll process.
  • Ensure compliance with all federal and state employment laws and regulations.
  • Develop and maintain company policies and the employee handbook.

Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure timely filing and payment of all federal, state, and local taxes.
  • Manage multi-state tax nexus issues, ensuring we are registered and compliant in all states where we have employees or conduct business.
  • Oversee business insurance policies and risk management procedures.
  • Establish and maintain robust internal controls and financial policies.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors as needed.

You have experience in investor and board-facing roles and can effectively present complex financial information.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of progressive experience, with a clear mix of hands-on controller duties and strategic FP&A responsibilities. Experience with HR administration is strongly preferred.
  • Experience in a high-growth startup, SaaS is required.
  • Expertise in Xero is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated, in-depth experience managing the complexities of
    multi-state payroll, sales tax, and nexus compliance.
  • Thorough knowledge of US GAAP and familiarity with employment law.
  • Experience supporting M&A activities (due diligence, integration) and/or funding rounds is a significant plus.
  • CPA, CMA, or HR certification (e.g., SHRM-CP) is a plus.
