Segrera Associates is conducting a search for a
Director of Finance
who will be a key member of the leadership team responsible for the strategic and operational oversight of all financial functions of the
nonprofit association
. This role oversees budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, accounting, compliance, grants management, and risk assessment to ensure the organization's financial sustainability and alignment with its mission.
**This role is fully remote with some travel both domestic and international, paying $150-175k plus bonus
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Strategy and Leadership
- Develop and implement financial strategies to support the organization's mission and long-term goals.
- Provide strategic financial guidance to the Executive Director and Board of Directors.
- Prepare and present accurate financial reports and analysis for internal and external stakeholders.
- Participate in organizational strategic planning and decision-making.
Budgeting and Financial Management
- Lead the annual budgeting process and provide ongoing oversight of budget performance.
- Monitor financial performance and proactively identify risks and opportunities.
- Ensure effective cash flow, investment, and asset management.
- Maintain internal financial controls and safeguard organizational assets.
Accounting and Reporting
- Oversee day-to-day financial operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, and payroll.
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Coordinate and manage the annual audit and tax filings (e.g., IRS Form 990).
Compliance and Risk Management
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as donor/grant requirements.
- Oversee financial policies and procedures, ensuring they are up to date and followed across the organization.
- Evaluate and manage financial risks, including insurance and contracts.
Grants and Fund Management
- Track and report on restricted and unrestricted funds.
- Ensure accurate financial reporting for grants and contracts.
- Support program staff in developing grant budgets and financial reports.
Team Leadership
- Supervise finance staff or external vendors/consultants as applicable.
- Promote a culture of continuous improvement, accountability, and ethical financial management.
- Provide financial training and support to staff and board members as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field; MBA preferred
- Active
CPA license REQUIRED - Minimum of 10+ years of progressive finance experience, with at least 5 in a leadership role.
- Strong knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles, fund accounting, and compliance requirements- REQUIRED
- Proficiency with financial software (e.g., QuickBooks, Sage Intacct) and Excel.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Experience working with a nonprofit board and managing audits.
- Commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
- Experience in a membership-based organization or association.
- Familiarity with federal and state grant reporting requirements.
- Experience managing a finance team in a nonprofit setting.
