Payroll Specialist

Albany Technical College seeks a well-qualified, highly motivated individual to fill the position of Payroll Specialist. Under minimal supervision, he/she reviews payroll data for accuracy and enters payroll transactions/data into the accounting system. He/she will be responsible for analyzing periodic reports and reconciles content with other records such as: health insurance, retirement benefits, or related reports. Processes payroll voids and hand drawn/adjustment requests. Processes and administers third party requests involving employee pay, such as garnishments, levies, bankruptcies and child support wage assignments. Completes routine payroll-related forms, for example, W-2s, W-4s, or stop payment requests. The Payroll Specialist will maintain all Payroll records and acts as a liaison between the payroll section and other government agencies and other outside businesses in resolving problems. He/she will maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by attending professional development training, workshops, seminars and conferences and by reading professional literature in the related technical field. The incumbent must possess a strong background in Excel and be proficient in the use of computer technology.
Minimum Qualifications: The candidate MUST have an Associate Degree and three (3) years of payroll or related accounting experience.
NOTE: Experience may substitute for the degree on a year-for-year basis.
Preferred Qualifications: The candidate MUST have a Bachelor's Degree from an accredited four (4) year College or University in Business Administration, Accounting or a related field *AND* have three (3) years of experience in a payroll setting which included completion of payroll cycle duties, Extensive (preferably PeopleSoft Accounting Systems) payroll experience in a comprehensive or large scale setting.
Physical Demands: Work is typically performed in an office l environment with intermittent sitting or walking in various settings. Must frequently lift and carry lightweight objects. Full range of hand and finger motion may be required for data entry purposes.
Salary/Benefits: Salary is commensurate with education and work experience. Work schedule may include day or evening. Benefits include paid state holidays, annual and sick leave, and the State of Georgia Flexible Benefits package.
