The Atlanta Children's Day Shelter is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty for families facing homelessness by building pathways to long-term self-sufficiency. Since 1986, ACS has provided quality early childhood education and family services, free of charge, to address the needs of the entire family.

About the Role:

The Director of Development oversees all activities related to the fundraising and marketing strategies for the Atlanta Children's Day Shelter. This individual will be responsible for building and executing comprehensive fundraising initiatives, meeting annual fundraising goals, building strong relationships with donors and sponsors, and overseeing marketing and communication efforts to increase brand awareness and engagement. A successful candidate will have previous experience in development and a proven track record of fundraising results.

What You'll Do:

Fundraising Strategy and Donor Relations:

  • Develop and implement overall annual fundraising plan, including goals, timelines, budget, and identified audiences for proposals, appeals, and campaigns.
  • Manage a portfolio of major donors, cultivating their engagement and deepening their commitment to the Shelter's mission.
  • Manage fundraising activities and metrics to ensure that fundraising goals are achieved and sources of support are diversified.
  • Build and manage a comprehensive donor stewardship program to strengthen and deepen relations between the Day Shelter and individual donors, corporate supporters, granting foundations, and community funding partners.
  • Provide direction and supervision on all development operational processes, including database management, financial reports, donor lists, gift processing and acknowledgments, donor benefits, and fulfillment activities.
  • Oversee the foundation grant program, including strategy and process, research and targeting of grant opportunities, and review draft grant proposals in collaboration with key staff and the Executive Director.

Volunteers:

· Guides the strategic direction and integration of the Volunteer Services program to align with organizational goals and fundraising priorities.

· Oversee volunteer recruitment, engagement, recognition, and retention strategies to ensure a high-impact, mission-driven volunteer experience.

· Partners with program and development staff to leverage volunteer engagement in advancing fundraising, community partnerships, and advocacy efforts.

· Evaluates and reports on volunteer impact, participation metrics, and community reach to inform strategic planning and resource allocation.

· Collaborates with senior leadership to develop innovative approaches for connecting volunteers to donor cultivation and stewardship opportunities.

Events:

  • Provide leadership in providing strategy, planning, implementation and evaluation of the Day Shelter's signature event, the Legacy Builders Celebration and Holiday House. Cultivate and retain sponsors, major donors and other key relationships that are critical to the event's success.
  • Support staff in reaching fundraising and strategic goals for Holiday House, Legacy Builders Celebration and third-party fundraisers, including assistance with sponsor and vendor relationships, as well as event strategy.
  • Contribute to the creation of meaningful and impactful events that garner press and brand awareness, foster strong community relations, increase revenue, donor loyalty and acquire new supporters, including community partner fundraisers and third-party events.
  • Represent the Shelter at community events to expand the organization's pool of supporters.

Marketing:

  • Oversee the writing, production, design, and distribution of a wide variety of publications and collateral materials, including annual reports, brochures, marketing materials, fact sheets, one-pagers, slide decks, videos and other materials.
  • Oversee website updates with staff to ensure that new and consistent information (article links, stories, and events) is posted regularly and ensure content is navigable.
  • Support the organization's social media presence by coordinating content that will engage various stakeholders.

Build a Successful Team

  • Manage development and marketing staff, providing guidance, support, and professional development opportunities.
  • Assign performance goals, initiatives and work tasks to direct reports.
  • Coach and develop team members to successfully perform roles.
  • Manage performance of team members, including administration of the performance management tools and Disciplinary processes.
  • Grow team capabilities to enable department and organizational talent development and succession planning.

What You'll Need:

Education

·
Bachelor's Degree (Marketing, Communications, Business Administration, Nonprofit Management, Social Entrepreneurship; other equivalences considered)

Experience

·
7+ years of fundraising experience overseeing $2m+ in revenue through foundations, special events, and major gifts.

·
Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams, guide staff, and provide professional development.

·
Knowledge of the Atlanta philanthropic and business communities.

·
Established network of contacts within the City of Atlanta and the surrounding metro area.

·
Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills, a poised public presence, and a demonstrated ability to exercise sensitivity and good judgment.

·
Ability to effectively speak and present to individuals, including high net-worth donors, executive corporate management, and small, mid-size, and large groups.

·
Proven track record of meeting fundraising goals and building successful donor relationships.

·
Excellent oral and written communication skills, including grant writing and proposal development.

·
Proven ability to manage multiple projects with varying priorities at one time.

·
Willingness and ability to travel throughout the market and work evenings and weekends as needed.

·
Familiarity with digital marketing platforms, including websites, social media, and online fundraising efforts.

·
Detail-oriented, flexible, and committed to meeting deadlines.

There may some Physical Demands:

This position works in a typical office setting. There may be extended periods of sitting, standing and/or bending; listening, talking and/or visual concentration; writing and/or computer use. This position would normally have routine opportunities to alter physical position or change eye focus. Lifting should not normally exceed 50 pounds. Local travel is required. Must have a satisfactory driving record.

Location
: Hybrid work environment with office location at 607 Peachtree Street NE, Atlanta, GA Occasional in-region travel to meetings and events.

Schedule:

40-50 hours standard weekly, typically Monday - Friday. Occasional evenings or weekend hours may be required.
