Position: Managing Consultant
Location: United States (Remote)
Position Summary
We are seeking a Managing Consultant to lead consulting engagements focused on resource adequacy, system planning, and energy market analysis. This role combines deep technical expertise with leadership, client management, and business development responsibilities. The ideal candidate is both a strong project manager and a trusted advisor, someone who can guide clients, oversee complex modeling work, and develop the next generation of consulting talent.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage consulting projects for RTO and utility clients (e.g., MISO, ERCOT, SPP) involving integrated resource planning and resource adequacy analysis.
- Implement and optimize the SERVM Integrated Resource Planning software for large-scale utilities, developers, and regulators.
- Conduct and oversee system resource planning studies, including evaluation of renewable and emerging technologies such as solar, wind, storage, and demand response.
- Develop and present testimony on resource adequacy frameworks and modeling outcomes in various jurisdictions.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships; lead business development activities including proposal writing, scoping, and presentations.
- Manage, mentor, and grow consulting staff; oversee workload allocation, performance management, and professional development.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with software, data, and engineering teams to ensure analytical rigor and client satisfaction.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Energy Systems, or a related field required; advanced degree preferred.
- 5+ years of experience in generation or resource planning, preferably in a consulting, utility, or ISO environment.
- Demonstrated expertise in resource adequacy studies and system modeling.
- Experience with SERVM strongly preferred; familiarity with other production cost models such as Encompass, PLEXOS, Aurora, or ProMod a plus.
- Proven experience in customer-facing project management, advisory services, and analytical solution development.
- Strong understanding of power systems operations, modeling, and reliability assessment methodologies.
- Experience with software development for power system simulation tools a plus.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and leadership skills.
