Quality Manager (Aerospace)
Lead the day-to-day operations of the Quality department and own the planning, engineering, coordination, and implementation of the site Quality Management System (QMS). Champion compliance to ISO 9001/AS9100, drive continuous improvement, and ensure successful internal and external audits.
Key Responsibilities
- Champion a strong safety culture; comply with all safety regulations and PPE requirements.
- Build and lead a high-performing quality organization through hiring, training, coaching, performance management, and recognition.
- Manage payroll/overtime/PTO for direct reports; recommend personnel actions (promotions, transfers, corrective actions) as needed.
- Own, maintain, and continuously improve the site QMS; ensure document control and procedural accuracy.
- Serve as the facility representative for all AS9100/ISO 9001 audit activities (planning, readiness, response, and follow-up).
- Lead MRB (Material Review Board) processes and disposition of nonconforming product.
- Partner with Engineering and Operations to enable flawless new product introductions.
- Interface with customers and suppliers to resolve quality issues and drive corrective/preventive actions.
- Track, analyze, and report quality metrics to leadership; identify trends and prioritize improvements.
- Develop and deliver training to elevate quality awareness and competency across the site.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree preferred.
- Aerospace/defense industry experience.
- Proven audit experience with ISO 9001/AS9100.
- Ability to read and interpret technical procedures, specifications, engineering drawings (incl. tolerancing), and applicable regulations.
- Demonstrated strength in root cause analysis and corrective action (e.g., 5-Why, 8D).
- Working knowledge of Lean/6S (5S + Safety).
- Strong planning, organization, time-management, and project leadership skills; able to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Prior supervisory/people-leadership experience with the ability to motivate and develop teams.
- Effective communicator and collaborator across functions and levels; customer-focused mindset.
- Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing processes and shop-floor quality controls.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office; general computer literacy required.
- Knowledge of relevant industry standards and regulations; committed to continuous improvement.
- Must pass an annual eye exam conducted by a licensed optometrist.
- Must complete and maintain certification in the Certified Operator Program.
Preferred Qualifications (Nice to Have)
- Experience leading customer and supplier quality initiatives.
- Familiarity with APQP/FAI, SPC, and CAPA systems or eQMS tools.
- Exposure to GD&T and measurement systems analysis.
Working Conditions & Travel
- Primarily a production environment with exposure to high noise, moving equipment, sharp parts/edges, fumes/dust/mist, and oils/cutting fluids; frequent use of required PPE.
- May require travel between Southwick and Westfield facilities.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $110, $125,000.00 per year
