Position Description:

The Technical Service Engineer is primarily responsible for providing application expertise across the entire spectrum of Derrick products. This position exposes the individual to multiple Derrick business units by working closely with Service, Sales (both international and domestic), Research and Development and Product Evolution Teams. Expect to travel both domestically and internationally in support of Derrick operations. The qualified individual must be team- oriented, eager to learn, and have a burning desire to bring value to the organization. Fully embracing the Derrick vision and the corporate/family culture are vital to success.

Duties include:
  • Assisting the sales organization by providing pre and post sale support to create technical value proposition of Derrick technology.
  • Providing technical product expertise for drilling contractors and operators, including applying the best Derrick products for each unique application.
  • Troubleshooting product performance problems and working with customers on effective solutions.
  • Managing the development of technical marketing materials to differentiate Derrick products in the marketplace.
  • Conducting analysis on Derrick and competitors' products; working with sales managers in order to develop ways to improve the positioning of Derrick's product.
  • Working with research and development to help define next generation products.
  • Teaching customers, agents, and Derrick employees in the field and classroom how to correctly apply Derrick's products to improve drilling efficiency and reduce the impact to the environment.
  • Assisting with care and maintenance of Derrick laboratory and test facility, including assisting in equipment demonstrations for tender specifications and/or customer visits.
  • Enhancing the organization's reputation by accomplishing new and different customer requests; exploring opportunities to add value to Derrick technology.
  • Updating job knowledge by participating in education opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.
  • Protecting the Derrick organization's value by keeping information confidential.
Required Skills:
  • Proven ability to take ownership of projects, work independently to resolve issues and see them to completion.
  • Ability to multi-task extensively.
  • Bachelors Degree in Engineering. Mechanical or Petroleum Engineering degrees preferred.
  • Strong communication skills both verbally and written.
Essential Requirements:
  • Live in or around Houston, TX or ability to relocate to Houston.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Basic to advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related products.
  • Detail oriented, self-directed, decisive, and honest.
  • Willingness and readiness to travel extensively both domestically and internationally.

Desirable Requirements:
  • Experience in the oil & gas drilling industry.
  • Comfort with foreign languages.

  • Perform office work requiring sitting at the computer and other administration duties.
  • Walking on flat or uneven surfaces.
  • Bending, stooping, and working from just above the ground to 6-foot elevation.
  • Use of stairs and ladders for elevated work.
  • Lifting 5 to 15 lbs. loads is performed daily.
  • Lifting 15 to 45 lbs. loads is done on an intermittent basis.
