Are you a motivated leader with a passion for public service and a knack for managing teams? Are you skilled at optimizing processes to ensure accurate and timely benefit determinations?

The Retirement Benefit Services Division is seeking two Staff Services Manager I's to oversee teams within the Retirement Benefit Processing and Maintenance Section. In this vital role, you will supervise a team responsible for processing service retirement applications, calculating benefit estimates, and ensuring CalPERS retirees receive timely and accurate payments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Supervise and guide staff who process retirement applications and calculate retirement benefits
  • Oversee daily operational activities to ensure accuracy, efficiency, and excellent customer service
  • Address and resolve complex inquiries from members and stakeholders
  • Assist the section manager in developing the section's goals, objectives and annual initiatives
  • Participate in succession and business planning to support organizational growth and change

Telework Information: This position is eligible for a hybrid work schedule, with up to two days of remote work and three days or more onsite, per week.

Sponsorship: This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship. Applicants must be authorized to work in the United States without the need for visa sponsorship. CalPERS does not participate in E-Verify for employment authorization purposes.

Effective July 1, 2025, The California Department of Human Resources (CalHR) implemented the Personal Leave Program 2025 (PLP PLP 2025 directs that each employee shall receive a 3 percent reduction in pay in exchange for 5 hours PLP 2025 leave credits, monthly. The salary range(s) included in the job advertisement do not reflect the 3 percent reduction in pay.

Pay: $7, $8,910.00 per month
