Position Summary
The Mental Health Clinician, under the supervision of the Specialty Director of Behavioral Health, plays a critical role in providing mental health services within the D.C. Department of Corrections. This includes culturally competent care, diagnostic evaluations, treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, and coordination of care within the correctional health setting.
The clinician will be responsible for delivering safe and effective behavioral health services that align with Unity's integrated model of care and meet the unique challenges of a correctional environment.
Key Responsibilities
Health Outcomes:
- Conduct mental health assessments, psychosocial evaluations, and diagnostic screenings.
- Develop and implement treatment plans tailored to the needs of the incarcerated population.
- Provide behavioral health interventions, preventive education, and referrals as needed.
- Maintain compliance with DOC and Unity Health Care policies and procedures.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to manage patient care and continuity.
Clinical Duties:
- Participate in peer reviews and offer constructive feedback.
- Maintain accurate, timely documentation in the medical record system.
- Engage in ongoing education and evidence-based practices to enhance service delivery.
- Collaborate with leadership in clinical and population health planning.
- Respond to clinical inquiries and support operational needs with professionalism.
Patient Experience:
- Ensure a patient-centered approach that prioritizes dignity, safety, and well-being
- Use data and feedback to support improvements in patient care and outcomes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Master's degree in Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or related field.
- Licensure as a Graduate or Independent Social Worker, Professional Counselor, or Psychologist in the District of Columbia (LGSW, LICSW, LGPC, LPC, etc.).
- Experience in behavioral health, including work with justice-involved individuals preferred.
- Ability to work in a correctional facility environment and maintain professional boundaries.
