We are seeking a dynamic, take-charge General Manager to lead our team at our fabulous Kinzie Hotel in downtown Chicago.

From the historic city maps that adorn our guest room walls to the amazing skyline views out our windows, Kinzie Hotel goes above and beyond to deliver the quintessential Chicago experience. Featuring contemporary, boutique accommodations and thoughtfully curated amenities, our inviting, upscale hotel embodies the body, playful, and distinctly Chicago aesthetic of River North. The property has been maintained and is currently under renovation.

SCOPE

As our General Manager, you will manage the day-to-day operations of the hotel to maximize profitability and to ensure superior service and product quality are maintained.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee the day-to-day operations and assignments of the hotel staff; conduct stand-up and staff meetings to ensure direction, communication and guest service standards remain front and center at all times.
  • Work with UVHMC in the development, implementation and monitoring of financial and operational plans for the hotel which support the overall objectives of the company/ownership. Provide regular direction and oversee hotel operations as follows:
  • Oversees and directs front office, revenue, and reservation functions to ensure the delivery of superior guest services, the security of monies, credit card transactions and guest information, and that established goals are achieved.
  • Ensure that the food and beverage standards of operation and quality are maintained and that F&B profit and revenue goals are achieved. We have several small meeting rooms and a conference room. We do offer complimentary breakfast and a cocktail hour for our guests. Room service is outsourced.
  • Oversees housekeeping and maintenance departments to ensure compliance with quality and company standards in all areas of the hotel as it relates to appearance, cleanliness, and levels of maintenance and repair; ensures preventative maintenance programs are in place to protect the physical assets of the hotel.
  • The security function is outsourced but the GM oversees to ensure a safe and secure environment for guests, employees, and hotel assets.
  • Monitors sales functions to ensure that goals are established and achieved to meet the hotel's overall financial objectives.
  • Works with in-hotel human resource director to ensure positive union and non-union employee relations, training and development, wage/benefit administration and compliance with policies and procedures and labor (CBA) agreements.
  • Ensures accounting and purchasing controls and procedures are maintained.
  • Develop, manage, and foster positive owner relationships (minimal interaction); and provide ongoing monthly information and status reports.
  • Make recommendations for capital improvements to enhance the assets of the company and property loyalty.
  • Recommend and/or initiate salary, disciplinary, or other staffing/human resources-related actions in accordance with Company rules and policies.
  • Alert Corporate of potentially serious issues.
  • Ensure all staff is properly trained and have the tools and equipment needed to effectively carry out their job functions
  • Interact with outside contacts:
  • Guests – Is 100% committed to their total satisfaction; goes above and beyond
  • Corporate – Communicates operational updates and current issues
  • Vendors – Resolevs any vendor performance issues, etc.; maintains partnerships
  • Other local agencies – Is cognizent of safety and compliance matters
  • Other contacts as needed (Professional organizations, community groups, local media)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

College Degree

Ideally, a boutique hotel background

Hotel GM experience or number two ready to move up

Union experience

Knowledge of Opera - preferred
