Employee Relations Specialist

Position Purpose:
The Employee Relations Specialist will focus on fostering positive employee relations within JWCH's the Recuperative Care Programs (RCC) and Interim Housing Programs. This role ensures that employees in these programs are supported in addressing workplace concerns, resolving conflicts, and maintaining compliance with organizational policies and employment laws. The Specialist will cultivate a positive and inclusive work environment tailored to the unique needs of the Recuperative Care Centers and Interim Housing Programs.
Principal Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for employees in the Recuperative Care Centers & Interim Housing Programs, addressing workplace concerns such as grievances, conflicts, and requests for policy clarification.
- Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into complaints or allegations ensuring timely, equitable, and legally compliant resolutions.
- Collaborate with program managers and supervisors to provide guidance on employee relation matters, including performance management and disciplinary actions.
- Work with the HR team to develop and implement initiatives aimed at improving employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention within set departments.
- Facilitate training sessions and workshops for staff and managers, covering topics such as conflict resolution, effective communication, and workplace best practices.
- Maintain detailed, confidential records of employee relations cases in compliance with organizational policies and employment laws.
- Monitor compliance with state and federal employment regulations, especially those specific to health and human service roles, ensuring adherence to applicable legal standards.
- Develop strategies to address challenges unique to the Recuperative Care & Interim Housing environment, including managing workplace stress and enhancing employee well-being.
- Adhere to all organizational safety policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements to ensure a safe environment for patients, staff, and visitors.
- Participate in required safety and compliance trainings and apply learned practices in daily work activities.
- Identify, report, and help mitigate unsafe conditions, incidents, or hazards in the workplace.
- Use equipment, tools, and supplies safely and responsibly in accordance with organizational and regulatory standards.
- Maintain awareness of infection control, occupational health, and emergency preparedness procedures appropriate to the role.
- Support onboarding and off-boarding processes, ensuring seamless transitions and adherence to organizational protocols.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements:
- Possess a Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or a related field, or have equivalent professional experience.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience in employee relations, preferably within healthcare, social services, or similar sectors.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to effectively engage with a diverse workforce.
- Knowledge of California labor laws and regulations applicable to healthcare and social services.
- Proven ability to handle sensitive situations with discretion and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Experience in conducting investigations and providing well-founded resolutions.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage multiple cases and meet deadlines.
- Proficiency in conflict resolution and de-escalation techniques, particularly in high-stress environments.
- Must have a valid driver's license and reliable transportation for site visits to Recuperative Care Program locations.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) is preferred.
