The Labor Relations Division (LRD) is committed to enhancing the wellbeing of the workforce through education and enforcement of New Mexico labor laws. Works in the Office of General Counsel performing legal tasks for the Labor Relations Division (LRD).

The Labor Relations Division (LRD) provides quality investigative services and strive to deter discrimination and harassment, unsafe child labor, paid sick leave violations, and unfair wage practices for New Mexico workers.

How does it get done?

The Labor Relations Division (LRD) Attorney provides expert legal advice and counsel to LRD management on matters that may impact the agency and advise staff on how to proceed with complex cases or when novel legal issues arise. This includes interpreting laws, regulations, and policies that may impact operations while maintaining strict confidentiality. As requested by LRD management, review internal documents, public-facing materials, constituent correspondence, and documents being prepared for external customers for legal validity or sufficiency.

Minimum Qualification

Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited school of law. Must be licensed as an attorney by the Supreme Court of New Mexico or qualified to apply for limited practice license (Rules and NMRA). For more information on limited practice licenses, please visit

Employment Requirements

All Attorney classifications must be and remain licensed as an attorney, in good standing, by the Supreme Court of New Mexico, or licensed as an attorney and in good standing by the highest court of another state and eligible pursuant to the limited license provisions (See Rules and NMRA).

Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License and a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate (DDC) from the State of New Mexico. Must possess DDC within six (6) months of date of hire as a condition of continued employment.

Working Conditions

Work is performed in an office setting: late hours, weekends, on-call and callback work may be required. Will be exposed to regular periods of video display terminal and keyboard usage and stressful situations. Travel is required. Possible exposure to irate clientele. Incumbent will work under stress and frequent time constraints.
