Payroll Administrator

The Payroll Administrator will process complex payroll operations for approximately 1,200+ employees. This role ensures accurate and timely payroll processing, compliance with applicable laws and regulations, and effective communication with all stakeholders. The ideal candidate will have experience in payroll systems and multi-state payroll regulations.
Responsibilities & Duties- Payroll processing for approximately 1,200 employees, ensuring accuracy and compliance with company policies and government regulations.
- Troubleshooting various system and accounting issues.
- Prepare payroll by entering data, processing forms, creating imports, and completing checklists.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local payroll laws and regulations, including tax filings and reporting requirements.
- Accurately respond to payroll-related inquiries and concerns from employees and provide timely resolution.
- Create journal entries for payroll-related payments.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and assist with month-end and year-end closing procedures, including the generation of IRS Form W-2.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll administration, payroll systems, and software.
- Thorough understanding of federal and state payroll regulations, including multi-state payroll processing.
- Experience handling confidential information with discretion.
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
- Skilled in both internal and external communication.
- Collaborative, respectful, and friendly disposition in handling payroll-related questions or concerns.
- Ability to multitask and handle a high-capacity workload.
- Affinity for continuous learning.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible and able to pivot quickly, easily adapting to changes.
- Understanding of basic accounting as it pertains to payroll functions, such as journal entries and chart of accounts reconciliation.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel using complex formulas and other Office applications.
- Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) designation.
- Experience with non-profit payroll.
- Experience with religiously based payroll items such as ministerial exceptions and housing allowance.
- Experience with payroll tied to support-based fundraising.
