Remote, Oregon, United States Vontier Full time

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sr. Director of Global Payroll and Compliance to lead the strategy, execution, and continuous improvement of payroll operations and regulatory human resource/payroll compliance across all countries where the company operates. This leader ensures timely, accurate payroll delivery; maintains rigorous controls and audit-readiness; drives payroll system and process transformation; and partners cross-functionally to mitigate risk and support global growth. The ideal candidate will possess a strategic mindset, strong leadership skills, and a deep understanding of payroll technology and laws and regulations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

  • Lead global payroll operations end-to-end, including payroll processing, tax withholdings, statutory contributions, garnishments, and payroll-related reporting across all legal entities.
  • Own global payroll compliance and governance: ensure adherence to local labor laws, statutory filing requirements, tax rules, social security regulations, and data privacy (e.g., GDPR).
  • Build and maintain robust internal controls, SOX-compliant processes, standardized procedures, and comprehensive documentation. Lead payroll audits and respond to audit findings.
  • Manage relationships with third-party payroll providers, PEOs, tax advisors, and other vendors; negotiate SLAs and contracts and oversee performance and remediation.
  • Drive global payroll transformation and system strategy (Workday, ADP, SAP, UKG, etc.), including implementations, upgrades, integrations with HRIS/benefits/timekeeping, and automation initiatives.
  • Partner with HR, Finance, Legal, Tax, and regional operations on payroll-related projects (M&A integrations, country expansions, compensation changes, equity payouts) to ensure seamless execution.
  • Lead, develop, and scale a high-performing global payroll and compliance team; set priorities, coach talent, and define service levels for regional payroll centers.
  • Establish and monitor key metrics and SLAs (payroll accuracy, on-time rates, cost per payroll transaction, audit remediation timelines) and deliver regular reporting to senior leadership.
  • Serve as the subject-matter expert for payroll risk management and escalation; design business continuity and disaster recovery plans for payroll operations.
  • Provide strategic input on compensation, benefits, tax, and workforce planning initiatives from a payroll and compliance perspective.

WHO YOU ARE

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field;
  • Minimum 10–12 years of progressive payroll experience with at least 5 years leading global payroll and compliance operations.
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex global payroll programs covering multiple countries and employment types (employees, contractors, contingent workers).
  • Strong track record with payroll systems implementations and integrations (Workday Payroll, ADP, SAP, UKG, or similar).
  • Deep knowledge of international payroll regulations, statutory reporting, tax withholding, social contributions, and data privacy requirements.
  • Experience establishing SOX controls and passing external/internal payroll audits.
  • Proven vendor management experience, including outsourcing relationships and SLA governance.
  • Excellent leadership, stakeholder management, and communication skills; able to influence and collaborate with stakeholders across all functions and levels.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.

Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence and collaborate with stakeholders at all levels.
