We have an opportunity at our corporate offices in Washington D.C. for a Sr. Dir Federal Affairs on our Advocacy team. This position can be hybrid and requires 3 days in office.
This position directs Executive Branch lobbying unit, and AMA liaison efforts with independent legislative entities (e.g. MedPAC GAO), and external health care (e.g., National Quality Forum, Connected Health Initiative). Liaise with senior Administration officials at the White House, HHS, DOD, VA, and other federal agencies. Coordinates activities with specialty societies in Washington, DC, and builds coalitions with other groups.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Executive Branch Affairs
- Manages AMA advocacy activities with the Executive Branch, public-private health care organizations, and independent legislative entities.
- Identifies opportunities to advance AMA priority issues and develops strategies for Medicare physician payment reform, relieving regulatory burdens, digital health, access to care, and public health.
- Ensures AMA management and leadership are apprised of federal policy developments, and coordinates interactions between federal agencies and the BOT, EVP, senior management, and other AMA units in DC and Chicago.
- Develops and maintains program to foster open and regular communications with DC specialty society representatives to build consensus in physician community, including coalition development to promote AMA advocacy objectives and coordinated interactions with federal agencies.
Internal & External Collaboration
- Builds coalition with other stakeholder groups to advance AMA priority issues.
- Collaborates with other AMA units to promote physician leadership and successful adoption of AMA priorities in public sector programs, including development of resource material and educational programs.
- Secures AMA representation on federal and public-private boards, panels, and other entities to help advance organizational objectives and provide physician perspective in the policymaking process.
- Represent the AMA at meetings with senior Administration officials at the White House, HHS, DOD, VA, and other federal agencies.
Staff Management
- Provide management oversight for staff including hiring, training, and ensuring compliance.
- Responsible for setting objectives, evaluating employee performance, and fostering a collaborative team environment.
- Responsible for developing staff's knowledge and skills to support career development.

REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree required. Advanced degree (Master's or Law degree) preferred.
- 12+ years working with members of Congress, Federal agencies required; experience with national medical specialty society related to federal health issues preferred.
- 7+ years people management experience preferred; able to grow and mentor talent.
- Detailed knowledge of regulatory processes and government agencies and officials, and strategic acumen required.
- Proven experience with negotiation; politically savvy.
- Proven ability to develop and implement strategic roadmaps encompassing both short and long-term goals.
- Demonstrated leadership ability to drive results and lead across the organization through influence and collaboration.
- Excellent communication skills, including writing and verbal skills, and strong public speaking skills required.
- Strong interpersonal skills including ability to interact and communicate effectively with individuals at all levels with diverse backgrounds.

This role is an exempt position, and the salary range for this position is $214,200-$289,170. This is the lowest to highest salary we believe we would pay for this role at the time of this posting. An employee's pay within the salary range will be determined by a variety of factors including but not limited to business consideration and geographical location, as well as candidate qualifications, such as skills, education, and experience.
