Red, White & Blue Fire Protection District, in partnership with Summit Fire & EMS, is seeking a passionate and experienced EMS Training professional to join our dynamic Training Division team.

Position Summary

As a key member of the Training Division, the EMS Training Lieutenant will serve as the primary instructor and coordinator for EMS continuing education across both the Red, White & Blue Fire and Summit Fire & EMS.

Reporting directly to the Division Chief of Training, Safety, and Special Operations, the EMS Training Lieutenant will work closely with the EMS Training Captain, RWB EMS Lieutenants, and Summit Fire EMS Specialists to design, deliver, and evaluate meaningful training experiences for all emergency personnel in Summit County.

The Training Division is a joint, cooperative program between RWB and SFE that emphasizes consistency, collaboration, and innovation. Together, the team develops and delivers high-quality training programs, ensuring Summit County fire districts are equipped with the latest firefighting skills, EMS field and clinical knowledge, and leadership tools necessary to serve our communities.

This is a 40-hour-per-week position with a starting salary of $141,262, offering a rare opportunity to help shape the future of EMS education in one of Colorado's most beautiful mountain regions.

Key Responsibilities

EMS Training Delivery & Coordination

  • Develop, coordinate, and lead monthly joint EMS continuing education (CE) sessions.
  • Manage and document CE hours for state and national recertification.
  • Facilitate BLS and ACLS recertifications and lead monthly High Quality CPR training.
  • Oversee and maintain EMS training equipment to ensure functionality and compliance.
  • Coordinate initial and refresher CEVO training.
  • Assist with EMS training budget planning and LMS content development.
  • Provide EMS support during large-scale incidents and countywide events.

Instructional Program Development

  • Collaborate with EMS leaders from both Districts to deliver shift-based, scenario-driven training.
  • Facilitate QA/QI-driven education and skill reviews.
  • Support specialized EMS training programs and contribute to operational training materials.

Quality Improvement, Data Use & Collaboration

  • Serve on the Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) Steering Committee.
  • Participate in patient care documentation reviews and data-driven educational initiatives.
  • Integrate CPR feedback and clinical outcomes into future training sessions.
  • Maintain strong relationships with partners such as Colorado Mountain College and Common Spirit Health medical direction.

Leadership and Organizational Culture

  • Promote the District's Mission, Vision, and Guiding Virtues through professionalism and positive example.
  • Stay current on EMS trends, technologies, and legislation impacting prehospital care.
  • Demonstrate courage and integrity in decision-making.
  • Foster teamwork, accountability, and pride within the organization.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required, associate's degree in EMS, Fire Science, or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of five (5) years as a field paramedic, preferably in a fire-based EMS system.
  • Minimum of three (3) years' experience in EMS instruction or field training.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, LMS platforms, and smart classroom technologies.
  • Valid driver's license with acceptable driving record (Colorado license within 30 days of hire).
  • Candidate must pass background investigation, polygraph, physical exam, and drug screening.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in EMS Quality Improvement programs.
  • Grant writing experience.
  • CCP-C and/or FP-C certification.

Required Licenses & Certifications

  • National Registry Paramedic (in good standing) with ability to obtain Colorado Paramedic license.
  • BLS & ACLS Instructor (within 3 months of hire).
  • IS-100, IS-200, IS-700, IS-800 (within 3 months of hire).
  • State EMS Instructor or Primary/Assistant Instructor Certification (within 18 months of hire).
  • Maintain field capability as a practicing Paramedic or IFT Advanced Practice Paramedic.
